Decided to do a deep-dive into fictional pokemon fruit because I'm a sucker for hyperspecific worldbuilding, i guess. Anyway, since the Tamato berry's supposed to be the size of a cantaloupe but looks the way it does, I figured it would grow closer in fashion to a pineapple than a tomato. It's a spicier berry, too- so when drawing the cross-section I took inspiration from both bell peppers and tomatoes. While it's supposed to be soft, I figure the skin might be a tad tougher than actual tomatoes, and filled with spicy seeds to really make it pepper-adjacent. Red signals STAY AWAY, but if the color won't deter pokemon that want to eat this berry, the sharp spikes and sharper spice definitely will. Let me know if you want to see more berry concepts, I'm a big fan of these fictional fruits, and thinking about pokemon concepts in real life is both a lot of fun & could be leading up to something else. 👀
