So looking at how Glamrock Freddy moves onstage, it makes sense from an animatronic standpoint, as he’s programmed to move that way. But it got me wondering, “How did Bowie learn to move like that?” And then it hit me: high school color guard.

Bowie was in his high school’s color guard all 4 years he went, and even became the captain his senior year. This was also where he met Mercury and Cynthia (Glamrock Chica.) Mercury was the guitarist in the matching band, while Cynthia was a fellow guard member. She ended up being his co-captain as well.

Bowie is now a color guard instructor at Rocky’s high school. It was his happy place and safe space, so he wants to make it others’ safe space as well. He also wants to bring some of his guard work to the stage. And if he can dance and run in those platform boots, you know damn well he can twirl a flag in them too.
