There's always a day, a day when the power player, (Howard)
the junior (Nester) and his son (Max) must drop the power star, mentor bowtie and the cap.

I was buying Nintendo Power since I was in 2nd grade. I missed the first 3 issues and started my subscription with the Super Mario Bros. 3 issue. Man so sad to see it end. My brother and I still have all our issues since then.

Sad...sad...sad...day
However, your picture looks awesome! I loved that magazine, it was so awesome seeing the 2D side scroller maps laid out in the magazine. I think, I have a tear in my eye....

I first thought it the original how much you were able to make it look so.
I'll miss Nintendo power. It was one of the firt magazine I bought and read. Good artworks, good article, nice humor. Heck, Dragoniade was inspired by one of the issue
RIP Howard and Nester

Nice icon.
I'm actually planning a 3-part comic called "The Death of Nester", a slightly dark send-off in the spirit of the original NP comics. Me and my brother have been plotting out the details and I hope to start working on the preliminary drafts this week.

I'm totally buying three copies of this last issue; One to preserve, one for reading, and one for mah homies.
It should be an Epic Rag (at least it better be.)
We're not just talking about a magazine, it's the history of a pioneering company. Video games will always have a special place in my heart. I was a subscriber to the Nintendo Fun Club. Back when they mailed you a printed fold-out with pink and black ink [googles it] God. 1987. I was 9. I remember that damned magazine being the highlight of my month. It seemed like a brilliant ploy by my parents to make me fetch the mail.
It taught me about computers well enough to crack the Mega Man Password system and mail it in. It got me interested in comic art enough to do professional illustration. It made it possible to beat Contra.
Nothing has ever made me take note of the passage of time more than learning about this. Just now. |6| I'm really pleased with your article, and agree with you on every point. The greatest thing this magazine ever did was, literally (and I mean that properly), give rise to the gaming sub-culture. People wrote letters. Drew pictures. /Named Their Kids/ (The Robin Williams Zelda Ad?) in the image of their art & craft, and in time that of all games. It's a real shame to see it absorbed and destroyed by the very forces of generic commercialism which are threatening the scene today.
To see something so massive begin and end between the beginning of your life and the present day is a pretty strange experience. I can remember a time when I wouldn't be so vocal about it. Games used to be for 'just for nerds', you know. I mark the occasion with this letter because video games finally have some respect; to me, all that started with a little clay sculpture of Wart and Mario (with the wrong colors).

I had a subscription way back in the 8-bit and Super N days. An end of an era.

In this day and age of the internet, print media is sadly dieing in terms of news. It is a sad end of an era, as it was a very interesting magazine (well, when it's earlier days, although I did prefer the old EGM more).
Anyways, your article was very good and your drawing compliments it very well. I'll always remember the Link to the Past comic that Shotaro Ishinomori drew for them. I still consider that the best adaptation of a video game in comic form ever.

This sucks, I've been getting Nintendo Power since I got my N64 back in the 90's. Nice Nester.

Nintendo along with groups like SquarEnix and Capcom, seem to have decide to go into the business of making their original fans sad. Seem to be a fad with these guys. DC Reboots their line to alienate their older readers, Nintendo tries to cater to casual gamers, Capcom want's to only sell to their Resident evil/Street Fighter die hards, SquarEnix can not get past emo heroes and repetitive stories with convoluted game mechanics. Man I have become old a bitter at a young age.

I may not have kept up with NP as much as I did when I was a kid, but this is still a sad loss.
