OH GOD THE COLOURS
So I've been trying to design a onna-bugeisha/kitsune type mix up for fun. I've specifically been focusing on shapes and how they make up a character-specific silhouette. I sorta like the pinecone-y thing going on with the armour. Not sure how that mask crept in there. Because masks are cool, I guess. Well, I do like the anonymity it brings to the design --I may prefer it over drawing a human face in this instance.
As you can probably tell, I have not drawn animals in a super long time. My childhood spent copying Disney animals had to rush to my aid.

I really like this a lot! The colors work really well, and the red line art makes it seem like this could be an avatar in Summer Wars. The mask is really badass and I can't find much fault with the animals you say you weren't comfortable with drawing.

Well, I did like Mamoru Hosoda's use of bright colours for the OZ bits of that movie. This seems sub-consciously inspired by that aesthetic, when I think about it.

It was a very good aesthetic, and I think it works out a lot for this picture too.
