That's because on this site avatars are 50x50 pixels, whereas this is drawn at 100x100 pixels. When the image is shrunk it loses detail.

As for how I did it, basically I took this drawing I did a while back, shrunk it down to 100x100 pixels and traced over it, omitting certain details of course. The teeth had to pretty much change completely, there was too many of them to translate well. I drew it in greyscale first, then selected each shade and added the colours, twiddling with them as I went. I usually pixel from scratch, but this method is effective.

I have the most trouble when Im trying to create a whole character in a space thats like 100 x 100. I can't seem to get the details right without it looking odd.
