Geordi captained theΒ Challenger in the TNG novel 'Indistinguishable From Magic', along with Scotty. Β In the book they found rescued the crew of the USS Hera (along with Geordi's mother Captain Silva LaForge) from a dimensional rift, but were forced to sacrifice the Challenger. Β In order to succeed someone had to remain onboard the doomed ship, and Scotty was that person.
