I want to, but I physically cannot. It's a program on my school computer, and the school took the computer back for the summer.

You can get Photoshop 80% off with a student license. Yes, it works with high school students.
THAT'S $140 DOLLARS! Just saying.
Also, it's stupidly easy to crack Photoshop CS5. You don't even have to worry about updates to the program. With a text editor you can just prevent Photoshop from contacting Adobe's servers. It's been working for me for years. :ssh:

Wait what really? I need to look that up. Like...with a student ID? Or what?

After I used Photoshop, I was so happy to get rid of PDN. XD
But this looks good!

It's so SATURATED. So UNCONTRASTY. It looks so different from what I usually do. I wish I had my own Phot--wait a second.
My dad might have a basic pack somewhere.
Oh my god that would save my summer.

PSH! It's not as terrible as you make it seem.
You could always commandeer a copy of PS.

Thanks. I'm making bases now and they're turning out okay...turns out GIMP has a square! Yay!
And I could...

...
So, in Paint.NET the color selection tool is a circular palette, like this: [link] It really really bothers me because I can't desaturate and unbrighten the colors properly and therefore can't get good colors. So I switched to GIMP while I made palettes and bases because I remembered they had this triangle thing [[link] ] which was mildly better, but then I found out that they had a square like Photoshop does for color selecting. [[link] ] The dark and light are in weird spots [[link] ] but otherwise it's the same and it's easier to use.

I think it looks good. But, I know what you mean about the wheel. Paint Shop Pro is like that. Sometimes I get very frustrated with it, but for the most part I have learned how to use it. Just takes a bit of getting used to (though I've been using it for years). What you might want to do--and I know others do the same thing for this very reason--is look at some pre-done online palettes, which will give you a nice color range. Or make some of your own palettes. This way you can tweak the colors and get them right and use them regularly. That's something I need to do, but I have a huge folder with pre-shaded bases I use, so it's not as much of a trouble.

I think I had a base pack that I started a while back in the winter, but then my laptop got reimaged and I lost it.
I think I'll definitely do the palettes thing. It could help. I just miss my greys. I'll probably end up using those to make the bases, too, but one of my favorite parts is making the base because it's usually the only part that ends up looking good.

Aww. Well, I know what you mean. I always get excited painting a new base. But having a bunch pre-made does help make creating emotes a lot quicker.

I've figured out my solution....
I'm downloading GIMP and I'm going to use that to put together a bunch of palettes, and then I'll just use those in Paint.NET. Complicated, but it'll work. [I like the color selector in GIMP so much more than that of Paint.NET.]
Painting new bases is fun, and usually it doesn't take me very long to make emotes because I know what I want and the thing that takes the longest is just tweaking the placement of the hands or other little things like that.

Hey, that's cool. And honestly, back in the day before we had very fancy programs like Photoshop, a lot of people had 2-3 programs they used together to accomplish what they needed to.

Ugh. GIMP won't open. It keeps freezing.
And that's true. A lot of people still use a few different programs between animating and transparency and the actual creation of the emote.

Paint.NET [Notice the title.
]
I...it's not bad. The colors make me want to kill it with fire though. I usually use muted colors in my emotes, and this is just way too saturated. I love the orangey-pink. It's just too saturated and there's not enough contrast.
