He's not holding up the earth in all those paintings and statues, it's the Celestial Orb, a representation of the Sky. It was his job to make sure the Sky and Earth never met, if they did everything would end.

On more technical junk, I love the use of color. I dunno what you used to color, but I love it. The pose looks so real, not rigid at all. The background is simple, but it works so well with the subject matter. Keep this stuff up!
