Oh yeah, Ponyville totally borders a desert. Don't you remember? Don't worry too much about Vinyl; Derpy would never beat up an unconscious pony. XD
If the passengers look tiny in relation to Derpy... it's an optical illusion! And the backdrop, oof; the foreground and back do not match, so pardon the glare.
