Description First big piece in a while I've done totally for myself - damn sometimes it's nice just to do art for no other reason than just I want to.

My big birb Regalia getting the fullbody he deserves at last, it's been a little while since I did one of these monster figures so it was really interesting to see what new stuff i could bring to it ;w ; I altered his proportions from his official species artwork, merely because I wanted to make the wingspan a little more dramatic because this kids going onto the front of my portfolio, and I'm happy with him and his equine/birb anatomy - Regalia is a good boi.

Next batch of public commissions will be opening up on Saturday - I'll update the announcement page when they do <3

Where's the other hind leg? Even if the idea was to have it concealed by the wing, you'd still be able to see some toes or hooves sticking out from underneath it...

Ah - that’s an in joke. That hind leg is not visible on his reference sheet (and he has lore reasons for it) so when I came to draw this and found that drawing the toes poking out from under the wing looked a little odd, I decided not to include them at all! ^w^ As I didn’t feel it detracted from the piece and was a homage to his original artwork.

On a side note: When highlighting areas of a piece of artwork you don’t understand or like - in future please try to remember to do it constructively - if you enjoyed the artwork but want to point out where it could be improved and made better,  please say so rather than just pointing out what you think are faults uwu

I'm... not sure I understand your second point? Are you saying every opinion has to have to have a high point and a low point when describing a particular piece of art?
If that is indeed the case then I'm sorry but I wasn't really trying to write a "constructive critique". I prefer to be blunt and to the point rather than embellish my comments with flowery terms just to "soften the blow", and I'm not going to fish for positive aspects if the drawing has little of it or none of it really stands out. (Not the case here, don't worry.)

But since this seems important to you, I'll give you something. Normally I don't bother replying (I'm 99% a lurker) but there was something about your drawing that made me stick around for a while longer and take a good look at it (which is I why I noticed the "missing leg"). The fact I left a comment is kind of promising in itself, even if it was a "negative" one. I know it's easier to leave a "bad" opinion than a good one but don't beat yourself up if someone mentions a tiny fault in your work, ok? It doesn't mean the entire piece is bad, in fact, I liked the detail on the feathers and the way you did the shading.

Remember, opinions are just opinions. More important than what a random stranger says on the internet is what -you- think of your work.

I’m happy to give a bit of clarification on my point, as I think we might’ve got our wires crossed somewhere here! I’m really glad you liked aspects of the piece, those details in the wings took a lot of time!

As far as beating myself up over your comment, no fear on that account. All my works have faults and I’m constantly trying to improve them <3 Hence why I like to have constructive criticism and am all for people finding weak spots in my skillset (or in fact, entire pieces of missing anatomy!). If I burst into tears and ranted and raved at everybody who noticed an issue – I’d never improve!

My side note was intended to let you know gently that beginning a message with ‘where is X’ is in fact quite rude, especially if you go onto say nothing else about the image other than that point. Not every opinion has to have 2 sides and take into consideration both good and bad points and the work as a whole; but people, especially younger artists which DA has a large community of, can find that kind of one sided comment very demoralising – and while you might not like softening the blow sometimes that is a better way to help someone improve than being blunt and giving ‘tough love’. I’d usually not respond to a comment such as yours – as opinions are indeed, just opinions - but I felt like I wanted to explain to you why he has a leg missing, as it’s a little running joke I have with this character and to me is quite amusing.

I hope that makes everything a little more clear

Ebon <3
