I think its the bright light. Both old and new animatronics would get disoriented by bright light. If you turn the light on when one of them peeks out of the vent, they will have forgotten that they saw your face for a few seconds. And when they return to their senses, they will only see the Freddy mask.

It's flashing lights they have trouble with, if I remember correctly. I understand your point, but most people save their strobe lights for Foxy.

The lights work on all animatronics(that goes through the hallway). It won't scare them off like with Foxy, but it will slow them down from getting to you.
