Description
Being a lowland conifer, the firs that spread across Nueva Ibiza eventually reached its western highlands. Here it adapted to higher elevations which recieved regular morning mists, increased rainfall, and even occasional snow in the winters. This fir is incredibly long-lived and can grow to magnifiscent heights, comparable to sequioias. This is due to the more fertile soils and milder mediterannean conditions. The tangled upper branches of the trees host microbiomes with unique and endemic life (including epiphytic grasses which are fed upon by a number of organisms.) Grand firs provide shelter for many animals below as well. They bear up to several thousand cones at a time, and seeds are wind-dispersed. Grand firs grow closer to the coast and so they are somewhat salt-tolerant. This tree's needles are long and slender and pliable, giving it an almost fuzzy look.
