The Phellundhim is a large, 8 foot long goat inhabiting the dense coniferous forests of the Scandinavian Peninsula. They avoid habitats which are overly rugged, open, or marshy. These browsers, decendants of the norwegian goat, roam about at an ambling pace as they feed on the fir trees, often chewing their cud on the move since the leaves are lower in nutritional value. Phellundhims have a four chambered stomach which is capable of digesting the tough, fibrous needles to extract maximum nutrients. They adopted this niche due to heavy competition from other herbivores, forcing them to rely on the conifers for sustenance. These goats are only preyed upon by hyenas, but due to their preference for the shade of the woodlands, they live only in herds of up to three females, their kids, and a lead male. Phellundims are aggressive when approached, and often display curiosity and moxie rather than fleeing from a predator. She may behave in very aggressive ways towards lower ranking females in the flock. A lead male and female will commonly mark territory with their scent glands as well as by urine. Males, upon reaching maturity, are kicked out and forced to roam alone in search of another herd. He may challenge another lead male to fight, using his greater strength and horns to battle for dominance. This happens quite commonly which causes great stress to a male phellundhim, and he may only keep a harem for a short time before being displaced by another male. Breeding season coincides with the lengthening of the night, timed such that the kid will be born by the next spring when food is the most bountiful.
