Damn, good observation, I didn't think of that!
I think it's a bit closer to x^2 sin(1/x) though since the peaks and troughs on either side are inverted.

Put the camera on a tripod, exposure to 15 seconds, self-timer on, went to the end of the hallway and when the shutter opened I started walking forward while waving (up & down) two LED flashlights at the camera.
There's lots of ways to get creative playing with lights & long exposures.

oooh.. nice.. yeah I tried to get some of my cousins (while in malaysia) to wave the sparkler/firework things up and down.. mm.. long exposure would have been a good idea. oops.
