thanks!
it was all done with photoshop and the polygonal lazo.
i cheated on the tree on the left side, i did it playing with the threshold and then painting the selection

Nicely done transformation from the original image. I like the skater, the trees, and the background buildings. They all have interesting shadows. Specifically, the skater's jeans, the trees, and the fence work very well. The curved sign breaks up the space really well.
I don't know very much about vector art style, but I think you could use some more detail in the sky and the bottom of the image. I can't tell what it is the skater is jumping over, its too flat for the rest of the image.
My only problem with the sky is that I can tell you used the gradient tool. You can see the radial gradient clearly. There are other ways to depict the sky, try using smooth digital painting techniques to clear away the apparent circle.

i see your point.
i tried to maintain little detail on "secondary" parts of the pictures.
i wanted to keep the focus on the skater.
the sky and the thing he was jumping over really were that simple
the sky was completely clear and the ditch he's jumping over is made of flat concrete slabs (there probably was a little more details like cracks and things like that, but the general shape was really simple). the way the sky looks is really similar to the original picture, unfortunately you can see the gradient "rings" a little too much, but, again, the sky really looked like that
thanks for your thorough comment

yeah vector!
i'm reteaching myself how to do it all... it's hard, yet fun, stuff!
I like it's very simple in the background yet the guy has more detail. draws your eye straight to him! A great sence of depth.
