Tufayl had been lucky before to tease lots of girls and never really get anything more then attention from them – only when he settled as beta male at Singo Cove did he stop his playboy ways and realise his position. He had tonnes of female vying for the position of his mate and eventually they even beat each other up to try and get the place. When Kelly, a tough fighter strolled forward after beating the others, she stepped over to Tufayl, grabbed his neck and demanded he accept her or she would take chunks out of his ears. Tufayl was startled, but he was excited to have a mate who would certainly keep him under control.

They produced two youngsters (practically straight away) Drake and Shard – everyone looked at Shard and were startled. She did not really look like either of her parents so much as alike to her grandmother Gulvardi with Kincaid’s frills on her tail. Everyone was excited and everyone wanted to teach Shard to be a warrior or something powerful like that, but Tufayl and his brothers shook their heads over it. They knew how troublesome destiny was and so decided to encourage Shard and her cousins and siblings to do whatever they wanted to do.

Shard was a delightful youngster; eager to learn anything anyone would teach her and more importantly her uncle Bezaubert. With him yet to have fathered children of his own, he was eager to keep her company and learn about her as a child just as much as she wanted to learn about him as an adult. He learnt that children were excitable, easily exhausted and asked more questions then the brain could struggle. Shard did nothing more then question and chew on his finger whilst he told her stories about the stars and taught her different directions using the stars as well as what the wind can teach you.

As she grew up however, it was not the wind that was teaching her… it was the trees. Shard had a strange interest in the plants and would lie with her head to the roots of a tree of against its trunk. She talked to the trees and the plants and the more she talked to them the more they grew. Her clan were surprised by this; if she planted a seed she could talk it into growing big and beautiful without many difficulties. She would even start to produce a haunting sound that she told them was a song by the trees. The more she sang it the more she attracted someone very special….

This being was Amundsen, grandson of the goddess Stavaque and one of her curious lovers and he was interested. He could hear the flowers growing and the song of the trees and when he heard a dragoness singing it, he was eager to find and court her. Sadly though, when Tufayl spotted a rather dumb looking dragon snuffing around his daughter, he demanded a fight and was rather startled when it was Shard who pinned him down and slapped his face to tell him not to do something that would anger the flowers.

To this, Tufayl only started to cry against his brother’s shoulder and started smiling – “She’s just like her mother.”

In the start of year 10021 babies were being born but Calafi’s terror caused their world’s time system to stop. No other babies were born, no females came into season… time was gone and Kotani trapped somewhere – so those young that were born at the start of the year were suddenly looked to as the last of their line and the only things left. For Shard, her eggs don’t even hatch... and everyone is unsure what is going to happen.

I liked this design for Mea but it didn’t win the competition so I thought over it and where I could put it… then I looked at Bezaubert and couldn’t help but make her one of his daughters. Despite her cheeky expression in the drawing, its clear to see she’s a hero in her own right.
