First off this is more of a photomanipulation if anything, and not really a portrait. For portriats you would normally get really close, as well as set shoot in a vertical style, instead of a horizontal one. Another thing is that you might want to try and eliminate some of the clutter in the background, as well as increase the aperature to create a shallow DOF, for it will produce some great effects.
