Nice portrayal of blind injustice. The italics make me feel like the narrator really is innocent. Also, I thought of an interesting alternative that captured a very different mood:
"Last words?"
"Throw the damn switch."

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. For me, as the author, the narrator is indeed innocent. I tried to convey that, but I suppose there are many interpretations to the story depending upon the reader. And your comment about blind justice was interesting.
Your story certainly captures a different mood. You should submit it if you haven't already

I love how the last line is in italics. It seems as it is a thought rather than a vocalized statement, which gives it a whole different light.

Really nicely done, I like the take on that phrase. It also sets the scene really nicely - I can imagine this happening in a jail where someone is about to get executed. The only think I would change about this is to give "I am innocent" its own line, like normal grammar would dictate. Perhaps also skip a few lines between these 2 phrases to give it more dramatic tension too.
