Back in Generation 2, in order to encourage folks to buy more toys, Hasbro rereleased a lot of G1 toys with new color schemes. One of the more popular examples of this was Sideswipe, who had his familiar red and black swapped around. Compared to a lot of other paint jobs at the time, it was very tasteful. And then the G2 comics went and decked him out with big guns, because this was the early nineties and that was the trend.

Anyway, Hasbro gave us a wonderful homage to this color scheme using the Siege version of Sideswipe, which was released as an Amazon exclusive along with Slamdance and Trenchfoot. Very shortly thereafter, kits were released to accompany this guy and outfit him with new weapons based on the comics, with other kits put out to give the regular version (as well as his retool, Red Alert) weapons akin to those used by the original G1 toys. I outfitted mine with three different kits. The shoulder cannon and white gun plugged into his left arm are from the regular kit from Nonnef Productions. The bandolier, sword, and two heavy guns are from same site's G2 kit - it also included a pair of spiked wheels, which I didn't use partly because that would rob him of his shoulder cannon and partly because one of them fell apart and I was too lazy to buy some super glue. The spiked wheels plugged into his shoulders are from a kit purchased from Shapeways, which I then painted using Testors Model Master Acrylic Medium Grey and Flat Black brush paint.

I'm strongly considering repurposing this guy as Deep Cover, but time will tell on that regard.
