This one was done for a watercolor demo. I was attending as a lecturer at art camp held by my old high school. Well...as a newbie lecturer, not sure this would be helpful or not *sweat* lol!
...but someone pointed this one looks like a merman rather than a little mermaid...don't you think?
PS. After came back from the camp yesterday...I'm totally sick T__T. Have to wait until my sister wake up and give me a ride to see a doctor *cough x 10 times*

This is soo beautiful. And I see what you mean. It has its "mer-man" features. I think It may be becuase teh tones and the shape. but I love it either way. And maybe thats the beauty of it. That some think female and some think male. That makes the art better than any other if people cant decide.

It does look more like a merman than a mermaid, but the colors and expression completely make up for that. The effect is really nice. I especially like the detail of the spots near the fin 'ears'. And the texture the canvas used adds a nice touch as well.
On another note, excellent profile angle. I'm terrible with side views, especially with mouths and noses so the fact that you did so well with this figure's mouth and nose impresses me to no end.

If I were to say anything concerning if your mermaid looked like a merman or not, I'd have to say it's the curve of the throat. Or perhaps people associate blue with male. But it is lovely.
