One of two new pictures I made for this year's conventions. It'll be debuting at Cincinnati Comic Expo and Mid-Ohio Con as a print.

Atrocitus the Red Lantern is another one of my favorite DC Comics characters. His story reminds me of a sad, violent Shakespearean tragedy spanning thousands of years. Yet he somehow remains a sympathetic character despite being the scariest and angriest thing in the universe.

I had a lot of fun with this design for him. I must admit I really liked the Green Lantern movie's idea of making the suits more like a second skin than a costume, so I took it a step further and made it literally melded with his flesh. Given that he's such an angry character, I tried to draw the suit's musculature so that it looked painful. I also wanted to give Atrocitus the hole in his chest where Qull ripped out his heart in Blackest Night, to show how his ring is keeping him alive.
