Description
Teehee, I saw this as a group on facebook and just had to draw something, even if it might not be totally accurateI know the space-suits probably aren't what they actually wore, I just drew a typical space-suit. They probably had a whole load of little spangly things and doo-dads but whatever, it's just a drawing so don't complain, kay?
so yeah, good times
*EDIT*
OMG I really wasn' expecting over 100 faves in less than a day!
*EDIT AGAIN*
This is most probably not true guys, at the least it's wildy innacurate. I'm not sure what actually went down, but if you absolutely have to know I'm sure a quick google will tell you

as it turns out, graphite dust from a pencil is not a fun thing in a cramped space capsule.

False: That's just a popular myth. An American company developed a pen that could write in zero gravity, underwater, on most surfaces, and extreme temperatures. But it was made totally independent from NASA. NASA actually refused to let them advertise it as "Made for NASA!" because it wasn't. However NASA did end up buying a lot of them, and they've been used on almost every space mission.
The funny thing though.... Russia -also- bought 100 of the same pens. And -also- used them on every mission.
Although when it comes down to it, astronauts prefer writing with pencils anyways since they can erase: Most astronauts use $2 mechanical pencils.

This is actually false. Both Russia and the US started using pencils in the beginning, but pencils make pencil shavings, and pencil shavings in zero g can harm equipment. The US developed the pen for zero g (which, although I don't know for a fact, I'm sure that 12 billion number was exaggerated) and then both US and Russia used the pens.

Aaah I see! I figured it happened something like that... I did find this on a facebook group so I was aware that the story was probably exaggerated. Thank you for explaining

Then again, pencils can puncture space suits and rupture seals inside a spacecraft. Ballpoint pens... not so dangerous. That and the sales some companies made in selling the ballpoints made up for the 12 billion spent easily in royalties alone.

Just from hearing this I laughed out loud. You have to wonder about NASA.

americans seem to lack the ability to spy obvious things, I can say that because I'm American. BUT on the upside now we have a totally awesome episode of Seinfield....

Unfortunately it's really just a testament to the power of urban legends.

Sorry, had to throw that out there.

1. Russia is cheap, but very practical in his ways to overcome problems.
2. Russia appears to write some kind of menacing message ?
