Description .

I have used the first and third verses of "The Shepherd's Psalm" to make a picture. The background shows "green pastures and still waters," which the otherwise absent verse 2 talks about. So verse 2 is represented, even though it's not shown in words.

May the words and their meaning be a blessing to all who read them.

...

Today is March 17. In many places, on this date, it is customary to remember the life of a man who lived more than a thousand years ago. I was also raised with this tradition... and, occasionally, I still practice it.

When he was sixteen, not yet a man, Patrick was kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery. He spent six years as a slave, compelled to tend sheep. Finally, after six years that must have felt like an eternity to him, a dream told him to flee to a port where he could find a ship.

After he'd escaped, another dream instructed him to return to the land where he had been a slave. He was told to share the good news about God's love with anyone there who would listen. So he studied, and was eventually permitted by the church of that era to return as a missionary.

Not many would have been so brave, or so willing to forgive and try to help those who had formerly enslaved them. That must have been very difficult for him.

Whatever his other faults or shortcomings, Patrick was obedient to what he believed God had told him to do. That, it seems, is worth remembering.

Nice tale for St. Patrick. This is also, actually, one of our memory verses.

Psalm 23 is worth remembering.

I spent some time researching St. Patrick, from being curious. What I told about him is from what I learned when doing that research.

Yay!  Love this!  (and the St Patricks tale, I had forgotten it!)

It's a great chapter.

I figure that anyone who got told to go to someplace that was roughly their equivalent of "Nineveh" -- but didn't need a whale to get there -- is probably as worthy of remembrance as Jonah.

That's why I sometimes make an effort to remember the man on the day dedicated to him.
