Re: the caracara....did you ever watch any of the old Discovery Channel series, "The Future is Wild"? It was based on several scientists' ideas of what the Earth would look like a million years from now. They posited that the Amazon rain forest would be replaced by something like the African savanna, and most familiar animals would be extinct. The apex predator was the "Carakiller", a giant flightless bird that evolved from the caracara over time....similar to the "terror birds" that roamed what is now Florida after the demise of the dinosaurs. Interesting series-I bought the DVD set.
