As we looked out the bow of our ship to only see a glimmer float down from the sky above. It was a beautiful moment in time but a few moments later a sharp burning sensation graced our skin knocking us to the floor.Created with 3dsmax and Photoshop

Very nice picture!
The ocean looks pretty realistic overall, very close to photorealism already. The water surface looks quite believable (3D Displacement mapping?), only the specular reflection of the sun seems a bit too much. The depth of field effect is really impressive, seems like it doesn't just blur in the distance, I sense some grain as well... although I could be wrong

It's a very nice picture, however it feels too compressed, as in low quality but high res. I.e. the jpeg compression is visible, and if that's not the case, it looks as something similar is going on.

What will i do with a 1280*1024 when I'm working on a 1600*1200 resolution though. I could blow it up but not to that size though.

1280x1024 is a very, very common size nowadays with the majority
of monitors being or going to be 5:4 ratio. Not many people use 1600x1200. (Which is 4:3 ratio)

Depth blur probably would be nice and I actually tried that out, but I couldn't get a good 'feel' for it, so I just decided to keep it as is. Thanks for the kind words

but i think you focused on the textures wich are pretty realistic, then the nice idea and the surrounding story -and- to repeat it the nice texture detail impresses me...!
