Why do you think of the casting for the movie? I wasn't even aware of who the guardians of the galaxy were until I heard they were making a movie out of them (which is unusual for me, usually even if I'm not familiar with something comic book related I'm at least aware of it's existence) so I'm wondering what someone who knows the characters things of it.

my goal is to (eventually!) ink myself....no matter how good an inker is, I don't think the work will come across exactly how you'd want it too
Believe me, Dex is one of the best....not saying I could do better its just that I'd want to have full control over the final product.

I totally understand. There's always a bit of a disconnect when you see your work inked by another artist...the only upside is that you didn't have to do all of that work yourself

Like with a lot of times Bendis took over series, it feels like a lot of the personality has been bled out of the characters and the plot is being dragged out far too long. that sixth issue is incredibly sparse.
The complete reworking of Star Lord to yet another daddy issues based character doesn't appeal to me either, sick of that from the dozens of movies we get based on the premise every year.
I'm aware that the annihilation onwards stuff was a departure from how the characters were before, but it felt like there was some history happening to them off screen back then. The current run feels clumsy and lazy in comparison.
Getting rid of variety in locations for the marvel universe by centering the series around earth and bringing Iron Man in has been a bit of a letdown too.
i got a lot of issues, but I keep reading because I just have this little glimmer of hope. looking forward to the movie though.

Well, I actually have never read any of the old series for Guardians so I went in with NO expectations.
The art is what appeals to me, it flows very well. I like the way Iron Man is drawn in the comic than in any other comic. I have to admit, I probably like it because the story keeps revolving around his being there, he's my favorite superhero and it's nice to see him changing it up a bit. Also I like the comic book Nova and so Guardians of the Galaxy is just a natural piece for me. I have problems with story elements being so, REGULAR. Like, Tony Stark and Gamora? What?! I thought he quit doing that kind of stuff. Also I find my favorite guardian is Groot, although he has that common cliche of being the big guy that gets all the work done. Star Lord is just kind of weak as a character, he could have a little bit more back to his backstory. Same with them all. The prelude issues only do part of the job. Eh, I guess I just think it looks beautiful and it's fast paced. It's probably because I haven't read a previous Guardian's storyline.

I see how there's some appeal to new readers with this series, but I'm not sure the staying power is there when everybody's so flat. We'll see I guess. Bendis stayed on avengers for yonks.
It's kinda pretty at times, some of the costumes are rendered inconsistently between artists. But the overall unifying look of the the volume last go round was more appealing to me.
if you like the characters you should try to hunt down the previous volume, might be Marvel has it digitally cos they're keeping it out of print at the moment (might come out in an omnibus around the movie, since james gunn is taking a lot of cues from it). They've got a lot more going on and Star Lord is almost completely different, his relationship with Rocket is a lot of fun.
