Hey all! here is a sort of experiment for my upcoming graphic novel project.I made this as a test, i think i could use this graphic style for the majority of the panels.
However, the level of detail will vary to highly polished pictures to sketchy, loose secenes.
Also, consider this the final design for the protagonist, Rose.
Finally, the text on the ballon is just a joke.

i want to put chapter one online, and on deviantart too. After that, i´m not sure, maybe i will look for a publisher or try starting a crowdfunding campaing to pay for things like an english translator haha.
But i´m still working on the story and trying to improve my own skills too, so it will take time, a couple of years maybe. xD

I'm kind of heading where you are, and trying to kick things off with Shonen Jump International competition coming up, I think you're not exactly looking to get to Japan, but competitions held by the big publishers might be an idea...

that's another option! the novel will only be this detailed in specific moments, the rest of the time it will be more manga like, so maybe trying to get into japan would be a good idea too.

i know man, i've checked your gallery a few times. I tried to do something similar a couple of times, without success i'm afraid haha.
To be honest, i´m still not sure about the style, full color? muted palette? black and white? more realistic or more stylized? so much things to think about.

tracyjb.deviantart.com/ and shiniez.deviantart.com/ uses different styles and techniques, I find both very interesting... I see you are pretty damn good with colors, but do you find it time consuming?
I do purely black and white (as you know) - I find it expressive enough with the hundreds of variations of screentones... but I'm really considering at least doing a few color pages. though I've never actually tried painting in photoshop, only in real mediums... will try it one day...

Yeah, i love Nebezial/Shiniez style the other one you said is pretty cool too.
But i´m looking forward to do something between manga/anime and the style Ashley Wood/Yoji Shinkawa have achieved in the metal gear franchise.
For colors, it can be time consuming, or not. Depending on how much are you going to render something but for simple cell shading (anime like) coloring it isnt more time consuming than applying tones, as long as you plan everything from the start. Also, painting in photoshop is awesome, but if you are more accustomed to real mediums you could start with Painter or, since you do manga, you could try Clip Paint Studio, which is manga/anime focused and the license is dirty cheap.

I see heavy Metal Gear influence in your work!! Looks great. Was this inspired from Metal Gear Ground Zeroes? Big Boss says the same thing and it is raining in both instances. Your comics look like the work of Hideo Kojima too. Very, Very, VERY, impressive.

Thanks a lot Manny! yeah, i have heavy influences from Metal gear.
that line is repeated in every metal gear, but this scene in particular was inspired by ground zeroes.
Its always nice to see another Dagger here.

I love the paintery style, but I could see this getting tedious for a comic. I would suggest leaving this style to the large, more intense scene you really want people to pay attention to and leave the other stuff a little less refined.
