Description
Some instinct made her lift her hand and cup his cheek with her fingers. The room was too dark for her to see him, but she could feel the stickiness of the blood, and a wetness that was not blood. "Little bird," he said once more, his voice raw and harsh as steel on stone.*flails* Ok, I know everyone and their hound dog have drawn this scene, but I finished A Clash of Kings the other day and I just-- I just had to.
I won't say I ship them, because-- look, If there was an alternate universe in which Sansa was a few years older and the Hound actually understood his feelings for her, then yeah sure, I'd be shipping that ship all over the Narrow Sea, but as it is⦠the Hound's angst will have to sate me.
Which it does. In the way that isn't sating at all, rather it feels like someone's stolen my organs.
SANDOR, YOU POOR FRIGHTENED PUPPY. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE FEELING, DO YOU? YOU'RE SO SCARED OF THE FIRE, AND SANSA'S SO PRETTY AND YOU WANT TO SAVE HER BUT AT THE SAME TIME YOU WANT TO HURT HER BECAUSE NO ONE'S EVER MADE YOU FEEL THIS WEAK, NOT EVEN MEAN OLD GREGOR -- but you'll never hurt her. Because she's the first person you've ever loved, and it cripples you inside. Also, you're a giant mound of candy-floss.
β¦ So basically I think George R R Martin should hire me to write chapters from Sandor's perspective, as I am clearly so tuned in to his inner monologue.
I got back from Canada this morning and I've had about six hours sleep in the last 42 hours. I drew this to keep me awake, so as to aid my jet lag, but it hasn't stopped my brain from being all... wiggly. Please excuse my loopy-ness.
p.s. HELLO! I AM HOME 8D <3

I really really loved every part of the story in which Sandor was involved ^^ and you wrote it from his perspective very very right It was a sad love story... He was so full of hate and gore that he couldn't see the love, and she was somehow afraid of him and couldn't accept him... I even can start crying for them this very minute

I love this- Sandor's vulnerability, Sansa's fear and bewilderment. The splatters of water and blood, the wicked green outside... Sansa's gravity-defying sleeve notwithstanding, this is perfection.

O.O This is awesome and it captures the scene from the book perfectly. Just their facial expressions... I don't know what to say, they're just stunning. I love the mixture of fear and compassion on Sansa's face, especially since it's balanced so well. You did an excellent job on this one!

I think this is the best artwork on DA which shows perfectly this moment from the book's plot.
I'm glad that you gave characters appearance from the serial, because that completely fits them and I love that.

I REALLY WISH SANDOR WOULD REALIZE HIS FEELINGS FOR HER! HONESTLY! THE WOULD BE PERFECT TOGETHER, NO MATTER THE AGE!... I TOTALLY agree with your description! I love them both.
Keep it up!

I'm pretty sure you've captured Sandor perfectly with not only your words, because those are fantastic, but also with your art. I'll be starting the petition to George R.R. Martin soon to have you write the Sandor chapters. xD
On a real note though, this is a beautiful piece. You've managed to capture a lot of emotion and it's really brilliant.

Aghh I could never get into these books once I discovered GRRM had a tendency to kill off main characters in an alarmingly frequent fashion.

Ok I'll say this. I see you're in quite the GoT mood lately, so if you want I'll give you a mission. Instead of randomly ambushing me trying to get me to ship Dio/Lucciola as you sometimes do (big waste of your time, dear).
Get me to like THIS series or at least to read the books.
Seriously, I watched the show because I saw you were into it and loved the characters, and since I trust you wherever character development is concerned I thought it would be worth a shot.
Now, it's not that I didn't like it, I found it very... entertaining? I could never wait to watch the next episode so I guess I liked it. The thing is... well, I just couldn't bring myself to (forgive my bluntness) give a fuck about what happened to any of those people. I didn't like nor hate any single one of them. I would say I found them dull but it's the opposite, too... over the top?
Now, what did I miss? What did you see that I did not??
p.s.
obligatory apology everytime you criticise something on the internet: sorry everyone (including eeba) if you really like the series and think my head is full of shit if I offended you. Not flaming nor hating, just writing a critique at half past midnight, which is probably not a very wise thing to do anyway :3
p.p.s.
just saw [link] here that you were pleased at your converting skills for making me watch it. Well... sorry to crush your dreams. But hey, giving you another opportunity here ^^

Haha, my dreams are far from crushed, each to their own!
In answer to this question: "Now, what did I miss? What did you see that I did not??"
I'm reading the books.
BUT, I liked the characters and the story before I started reading, so I was keen beans and that helped a lot. However, it has been interesting for me that the book has changed my perception of all the characters, and caused me to dislike ones I liked, and to fall in love with ones I hadn't given much thought (i.e. the Hound).
The book does a terrific job of allowing no one to be entirely good or entirely evil, and, as a result, there are times you feel for each character in turn, even if you loathe them. The show does a good job of capturing that -- it's not as advanced or intricate as it is in the book, but it's game-changing for epic fantasy on the big (or little) screen. Perhaps the fact you didn't "like" or "hate" any of them is because of this
But i think it's like anything.. if you go into it with too many expectations, you'll be disappointed on some level xD I actually started GoT with disdain because I'd had so many people tell me it was simply AMAZING and I didn't think it would be. But.. it is, truly, brilliantly crafted, and even if you can't get behind the characters, there's something to be found in the acting, the score, the direction, the dialogue, the editing, the costumes etc etc etc
So my progression has been thus: eh, don't want to watch it but ok⦠hey this is pretty good⦠this show is fucking awesome⦠need more, gonna read the books⦠MY HEART IS ON FIRE WITH LOVE FOR THIS STORY AND THESE CHARACTERRRRSSS
I do have a predisposition for intense obsession and fan-girling though, LBH.
I'd also recommend that you hang around on Tumblr instead of dA as far as GoT is concerned.. the fans seem to be much more active / passionate over there, and I've also been really swept up in that.
And when you say "too over the top", did you mean the characters? Or the show in general? Because the violent / sexual content does divide a lot of audience members, and I understand why, GoT does toe the line and even cross it from time to time. But⦠I like that x3

GothicBlackAngel In reply to Eeba-ism [2012-08-13 11:23:00 +0000 UTC]
mmmh, ok the books will probably be more insightful in the characters than the show as it's always the case.
Well, when I say over the top I mean the characters and it goes hand in hand with what you say about none of them being absolutely good or evil.
I'll be blunt again. If I have to sum up the problem I see with the characters (and consequently the plot) it's that they lack subtelty.
The violence and weird sex don't disturb me in the least on their own (ever heard of anime/manga Hellsing? I love it for two reasons: Joji Nakata's voice AND gratuitous violence), the thing is that it's growing constantly. Like all the bad characters are in a contest for who's the most twisted and the good characters for who's the most victimized. Then to avoid too much stereotypization they were given token respectively redeeming and evil features. Like the queen (forgot her name) who loves her children and the youngest Stark girl sending her assassin to kill the random bloke who caught her stealing.
Those would be good things, maybe, but the show really made them look token in my eyes...
Also the bastard kid (Rob?) always screwing up, disobeying orders to follow his hero complex and getting forgiven and/or rewarded for it every. single. time. in a place where the penalty for disertion is beheading, really?
I suppose there are reasons behind that appearing later but... nobody is noticing that's weird, and THAT's weird.
It's another thing I don't like, the "oh this is normal, btw are you shocked at the gore and sex yet?" atmosphere around it all. Which is common to be fair. Fiction is full of kids with delusions of greatness and supposedly noble dreams of revenge with not one person smacking them on the head and sending them to their room to be children WHERE THAT PERSON IS RIGHT.
I love characters that are neither completely good nor completely evil, that's called being alive and real. I just on't find it the case with these guys. They all have this mission/goal/personality and they stick to it, with no doubt or deviation (except the tokens) and they never act human, they're all living war and politics and real life has no place there. No subtle anticlimaxes, no meaningless tender moments of family life, nobody getting angry for no reason without a fuss being made about it... ok maybe in the books there is room for it. Is there?
I know war and politics is what the story is about but...
With the plot I'll say only this: the wars and backstabbing for the throne are a common thing and I'm totally cool with that. But when I look at the countless, expanding and almost equally balanced plotlines I can't help but imagine the author going "look at all of that, it's a COMPLEX story and it goes on for several volumes so it MUST be good, right? Am I not clever?"
Maybe I'm being unfair and a bit too blunt, especially with that last bit. My apologies to Mr. Martin and to his fans but, well... that's the impression I get I can't help it.
(Good god do I sound like a hater. I'm not, I swear! Eeba, believe me?)
p.s.
Ok, I'm adding more and more shit to this comment. Maybe it is a case of high expectations after all. Fuck it, it's entertaining, not perfect, end of story. Maybe I should just deal with disagreeing with you

my fangirl heart is in swooning mode right now. you're awesome and the drawing is awesome. Love sandor's expression and how sansa's afraid yet determined.
And yes I do ship SanSan but then I hope that they meet up when sansa is older and sandor has less angst ya know. Then they can defend Westeros, rebuild winterfell, and live happily ever after with pups, rainbows, and fluffy stuffs...but then GRRM won't grant me that I don't think.
