On its haunches, crawling across the ground, it opens its maw and winks at its victim. Each squirming tendril was revealed by the orange glow of the street light; they were thick and coarse, flexing with iron muscles. Dripping from every exposed bone and every tangled limb, was a black-yellow liquid which no individual should know in their lifetime. Pus, the stuff which the bubonic plague drew to the surface of dying flesh.
