I'm thinking of an echoing xylophone, a theramin, and a little girl "la-la"ing, all in the theme of Rosemary's Baby when I look at this.

Synaesthesia is brilliant, check it out.

Gotta trust the Wiki!

In a nutshell, it's when like if you listen to a piece of music, you see colours and patterns, etc. Like if I listen to the Dead Kennedy's version of Viva Las Vegas, the lead guitar reminds me of card suits flashing in the air. It's the same with taste... a good example of taste synaesthesia is the movie Rattatouie (however you spell it), when Remy the Rat eats food you see colours and patterns behind him... that's synaesthesia.

It's a cross-sensory experience (or whatever). Everyone has it in some form, even drug-induced and without drugs. I once had a friend (used to be an acid freak before I met him), the drug fried his senses so much that one time I was painting with a lot of red and he told me to stop using it because the colour hurt his ears. An honest true story.

So yeah, not so much a nutshell. But you can tell that I had to study it in my graphic design course I just finished.

I don't know why, I still find your lines dirty. You know that, don't you?
Really. Seems to me that you're always looking for something more. Something across the real.

I am not sure what you mean still by "dirty"?

"Something across the real" sounds right though.....

Dirty. I don't know how to explain it exactly. Untidy lines, wobbly edges...sick characters...Dirty. Somehow dirty.

Charming picture. Love the giant teacup. (It is a teacup with teabag, right?) And the sandwich.

Mind if I ask a couple of odd technical questions?

1. Out of curiosity: What's beyond, behind, or under the blacked out area? Like is it an error? Or secret stash? Or...?

2. It seems that sometimes you choose a piece of paper that was doing something else, and then execute a wonderful magical drawing on it. Correct? [e.g., This paper looks like it might have been a scrap of note (Ashminka "Samporo"?) in green felt-tip marker, and then got folded, possibly spindled, and barely escaped mutilation when you rescued it for posterity.] Or am I off base?

1.~It is a tea cup with tea bag, yes.

2.~The "black area" heheee...is just were something had been cut out
of the paper in its former life. and the space appears to be black
but its just the part where the scanner scanned nothing... .
....empty space if you will...

3.~You are indeed correct. This drawing was done on the backside of
this drawing [link] as i usually enjoy the sort of really aberrant kind
of markings that leak though to the other side.

....it was also yes, a scrap note to myself that was kept next to my
computer, (hence the "computer doodle" on the other side) And the words
that i am impressed you could read...say AshΓ‘ninka (Indian Tribe) and
the word "Samporo" means snake

Thank you for the questions and comments.

Hi, and thanks for answering my weird questions. First, I'm glad the black area is just "nothing" and not some unwholesome darkness creeping up on the poor fellow whilst drinking tea and waiting for the pumpkin.

It's very interesting that you re-use pages like this. I guess, hmm, for some reason it seems like your art is "worth more" than scrap papers. But, then, that could be my up-tight snooty prejudice about "values" and what constitutes "art". It might not be the same if it were on expensive pristine paper... And thanks for showing the "flip side", too. Another piece that springs to mind as being "worth more" than the medium upon which it's painted is [link] on cardboard. But maybe it just wouldn't be the same piece if it were painted on some expensive piece of canvas, etc.

The words. Ah, thanks. I could only read them because I downloaded and used Photoshop to rotate and flip the image so I could read it. A quick lookup this morning: [link]
