Description Yay! I finally can submit this one.. it's been finished for a week or so by now

Full View?

You can see the back of it here --> [link]

I just needed to do this.. I loved this manga/anime/movies so freaking much that I needed to do some fan art about it xDDD

It's small, it has only 39500+ stitches, and it's 31cmx20cm.. but it was harder than I thought.. I had troubles since the design of the pattern.. specially with Light's hair.. I dont think it came out that well :'(.. I also had troubles with the "Death Note" katakana thing at the bottom of it.. I'm not too happy with the way the "su" came out.. but at least it's readable.. right ;_;??

The pattern was designed by myself (no.. not with a cross stitch program... if you know of one of those that's free, please note me!) but image I used as a base was not done by me, I found it in one of the covers of the manga

I used 10 colours to make it, and it took about 2 months to be finished

Comments are greatly aprreciated in this one, if you have the time X3

EDIT: I changed the image.. the other one was too blurry, so I scanned it.. and then tried to remove all the yellow from my scanner... it still looks kinda yellow though .______.

Awesome cross-stitch! I like to cross-stitch myself, and I've always contemplated doing my own designs for characters and stuff. What method do you use to make the patterns?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EeveeChan In reply to KuroKakumei [2008-09-26 04:49:31 +0000 UTC]

what I do, is ectorize the image in Illustrator, and then shrink it, and then edit it in paint

It's easy, but it takes a while to do

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KuroKakumei In reply to EeveeChan [2008-09-26 05:14:20 +0000 UTC]

I have NO idea what "ectorize" means, lol. But I'll take your word for it that it's easy...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EeveeChan In reply to KuroKakumei [2008-09-27 04:14:20 +0000 UTC]

oh.. typo x_x

It is vectorize, to use the pen tool in Illustrator to re-draw your base image

after you do that, you can change the size of it to whatever you want and details wont be lost

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KuroKakumei In reply to EeveeChan [2008-09-27 14:58:47 +0000 UTC]

I still don't know how to do that, lol. I'm mostly digi-art illiterate. XD One day I'll figure it out...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Awenmir [2008-07-10 10:32:17 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I love it! how do you design the patterns without a program? I'd really love to be able to do it - I was using Dark Lilacs free cross stitch program up until recently, but they seem to have taken it down

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EeveeChan In reply to Awenmir [2008-07-14 03:48:17 +0000 UTC]

I use Illustrator to vectorize the image, and then paint to create the pattern itself n_____n

if you want to use a program though, I remember that there's one called Stitch, which is free and good XD

I dont remember the URL to download it though x_x

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Awenmir In reply to EeveeChan [2008-07-14 10:10:47 +0000 UTC]

Wow, it must have taken a lot of work to get this from the manga cover! Its definitely paid off though, the pattern is excellent - especially all the highlights on L's hair

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EeveeChan In reply to Awenmir [2008-07-20 21:59:51 +0000 UTC]

oh it takes some work, I'm trying to do the same with a xxxHolic Image, and not getting what I want yet... so it can be frustrating sometimes XD

but if I do get to stitch it, it's all worth it X3

awren [2008-05-24 05:49:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh, my, gosh. That is so amazing! I bet it was a really joy to convert to a pattern from a manga cover

I cross stitch too... and this probably brought on a whole lot of cursing

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EeveeChan In reply to awren [2008-07-06 04:41:39 +0000 UTC]

oh yes, I had lots of troubles trying to adapt Light's hair.. and then trying to get similar colors (the color of his hair changed from cover to cover XD )

some cursng was involved in the process, but it was mainly because I couldnt find the right colours.. I even had to mix flosses XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

awren In reply to EeveeChan [2008-07-06 15:29:40 +0000 UTC]

I bet that was a bother! (And I too have noticed how on the mangas, his hair changes.)

Ahh... I would be cursing because I kept messing up
Although being unable to find the right floss would be quite bothersome too...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EeveeChan In reply to awren [2008-07-14 04:04:46 +0000 UTC]

oh, it's good thing about making your own patterns, no one knows if you messed up or not XD

I did a few mistakes, I wont lie about it XD

but the color part is so bothersome for me, I dont use DMC, but regular floss with no numbers nor anything on it ;_;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

awren In reply to EeveeChan [2008-07-14 17:02:14 +0000 UTC]

True.

Better to not lie.

Ahhh yes, that can be very "grr" inducing

I'm a cross stitcher as well and I can truly appreciate the time, the effort, the work (the occasional cussing) and sore fingers this required to accomplish.

I really want to.... good for you. This is great work.
