Description
Part five: Return to senderThe wind rushed across the barren field before them. The sounds of battle from the fields rose as the minutes passed. The Nexus team was certainly giving the enemy hell, but Eevee, Charmander, and Blakii were not part of that major fight. Word had come earlier that week that Gengar, Absol, and Kimori were challenging the three to a three way duel. Two were fighting for honor, one was fighting for power.
Now, those three stood across the field. This was the fight that would end the major battle that was occurring just over the hills to their right.
“Well, I will give you credit for showing up.” Gengar smirked.
“I would think that by now you would realize that Nexus will not back down.” Blakii replied.
“We’ve beaten this guy before.” Charmander whispered, “He should be a piece of cake, right?”
“Yeah.” Eevee smirked back, “We’ll handle him and Absol.”
“Then that leaves Kimori to me.” Blakii said as a ghost of a smile appeared, “Let’s end this.”
Eevee nodded, “Charm, you take out Absol. Gengar is mine.”
“Eevee, none of your attacks will do any damage to him.” Charmander replied bluntly, “And we both know he’s the only one who has been able to dodge your hyper beam so far.”
“Fine.” Eevee sighed, “I’ll handle Absol then. At least now I can get a little revenge.”
Eevee faced Absol as he began to focus. His body felt light as he used his favorite attack, the quick attack.
As if a switch had been thrown, Blakii launched himself at Kimori, blade drawn and ready to strike. Charmander unleashed a powerful blast of flames that sped straight at Gengar. Eevee, however, got hit before he realized what had happened.
Absol had already been in the quick attack mode. The second they moved, she had already launched herself at Eevee, knocking him to the ground.
Luckily, his quick attack kicked in. Eevee was able to recover and counter the hit with his own, catching Absol’s wrist as she tried to punch him. Using her momentum against her, Eevee threw the pokémon to the ground. Before she could react, Eevee tackled Absol, knocking her out with a rapid series of punches.
He glanced over and saw Charmander unleashing a volley of powerful flames towards Gengar. The ghost pokémon sidestepped the attack and lunged at Charmander, a ball of rapidly growing energy in his hand. Charmander tried to leap away, but fell flat on his stomach.
Gengar grinned as he advanced on the fallen charmander, the ball in his hand growing bigger and bigger. He kicked Charmander, rolling the lizard onto his back. Before Charmander had a chance to defend himself, Gengar drove the ball into his stomach! As Charmander cried out in pain, the ghost continued to grin, pressing the attack harder and harder against Charmander.
“Get away from him!” Eevee yelled as the fox pokémon charged Gengar, the same ball of energy growing around his fist, “SHADOW BALL!”
Eevee drove the attack into Gengar’s side, throwing the startled ghost off Charmander. Eevee pulled his fist up, aimed, and fired the ball of energy towards Gengar. The ghost pokémon had just gotten to his feet when the attack knocked him back down again.
“You alright Charm?” Eevee asked as he pulled his friend to his feet.
“I will be after a second.” Charmander panted.
The lizard suddenly fell to his knees. Pain rippled down his sides as Eevee caught the charmander.
“Stay here and don’t move too much.” Eevee said as he handed the wounded pokémon a large, blue berry, “Eat this. I’ll finish Gengar.”
Charmander nodded and closed his eyes.
As this was happening, Blakii and Kimori were locked in combat. Their blades clashed as they attacked, blocked, and countered each others moves with deadly precision.
“Give it up Blakii.” Kimori mocked as he countered another attack, “You don’t stand a chance against me.”
A green burst of energy shot by Blakii as he rushed the pokémon, “You should be the one giving up.”
Blakii’s sword missed Kimori by mere centimeters, but Kimori’s bladed wrist didn’t miss. The vicious upper cut threw Blakii back as Kimori rushed him, the shining blade of his sword aimed to pierce Blakii’s heart.
Blakii moved quickly, dodging the blade and retaliated by driving his elbow into the back of Kimori as the sceptile passed. The large lizard fell to the ground, his own momentum causing him to slide a few inches. When Kimori began to stand, he found the tip of Blakii’s blade pointed at him.
The umbreon’s red eyes glared down at Kimori, daring him to attack again. Instead, the sceptile glanced to find Absol already unconscious, Charmander standing over her with claws lined with steel. The fire lizard had eaten the Oran berry Eevee had given him and was now ready to fight again. Eevee, however, had Gengar pinned, a ball of swirling, black energy in a pulled back fist that would be driven into the ghostly tyrant if he tried anything.
“It would seem that I have no other option.” Kimori sighed.
He set down his katana in defeat. Blakii smiled and placed his own katana back into it’s sheath.
“This fight is over.” Blakii said as he picked up Kimori’s blade.
“Not yet it isn’t.” someone laughed.
Gengar was grinning, “You really think that this is over? Think again you fools.”
The ghost laughed as he sunk into the ground before Eevee could react. In shock, the fox pokémon got up and glanced around.
“Where’d he go?” Eevee asked.
Charmander and Blakii glanced around, but Gengar was gone. The ghost tyrant had escaped into the ground.
“It doesn’t matter now.” Blakii said calmly, “Kimori is defeated and so is Absol. We must check on the rest of the fight.”
Eevee and Charmander nodded in agreement.
As the three began to walk away, Gengar suddenly leaped up from the ground! With a gleeful cackle, the ghost passed through Eevee. The fox fell to his knees, then fell onto his side. Gengar was trying to possess him!
“Eevee!” Charmander cried out.
Immediately, Charmander was at his friend’s side. Blakii stood over them, watching as Eevee tried to fight Gengar.
“Eevee, you have to fight it.” Blakii ordered, “Force him out of your body!”
Eevee stopped trembling and lay still for a minute. Then, his eyes opened. Charmander leaned closer to see if his friend was alright.
Suddenly, Charmander was flung back by a ball of black energy. The lizard hit the ground, somersaulted once, and slid to a stop a few feet away. Dazed, he tried to stand, but fell to his knees once again.
Blakii looked at the eevee and saw cold, red eyes looking back up at him. These were the merciless eyes of Gengar, not the kind eyes of the eevee. Eevee wasn’t behind them, Gengar was.
Chuckling, the fox got to his feet, “This little pokémon is more powerful than I’d thought.”
Clenching his fist, Eevee/Gengar smiled, “Oh yes, so much power.”
“Gengar you coward!” Blakii yelled, “Come out here and stop using Eevee as your shield!”
“Oh no. I rather like it in here.” Eevee/Gengar smirked, his red eyes flashing dangerously.
Without warning, Eevee/Gengar attacked, thrusting a fist of black energy towards Blakii. But instead of doing any damage, Blakii smiled. Eevee/Gengar looks surprised, then tried to attack again without effect. He couldn’t hurt Blakii!
“You may be inside Eevee, but you’re still the weakling you always were.” Blakii said, drawing his blade, “Ghost attacks can’t harm me.”
“You wouldn’t kill your own leader would you?” Eevee/Gengar challenged.
Blakii hesitated, then put the blade away, “No.”
Eevee/Gengar smiled and started to chuckle, “Now bow before me! I will still control this land! With his new body, I shall remain unstoppable!”
Suddenly, Eevee/Gengar heard something. Turning, he found a pillar of white hot fire racing towards him. The flames threw the pokémon to the ground, scorching his fur.
“Get out of him.” Charmander panted angrily, the flame on his tail growing in intensity to a white hot flame the size of a charizards, “Get out right now.”
“Why Charmander, you wouldn’t attack your best friend, would you?” Eevee/Gengar asked calmly as he stood back up.
“My best friend would forgive me if I did.” The lizard replied coldly, his fists shaking in rage as his eyes lost any sense of mercy, “He’d tell me to do whatever it takes to drive you out of him!”
Charmander unleashed a second volley of flames. These engulfed Eevee/Gengar as he cried out in surprise. The flames climbed into the sky, forming a swirling firestorm.
Realizing what it would take to drive Gengar out of Eevee, Blakii cupped his hands as a golden ball of energy began to form between them. As he powered up for his attack, Charmander raced into the fire, his claws lined with steel.
Eevee/Gengar was thrown out of the swirling flame vortex and landed on his back. Charmander leaped out of the dying vortex and unleashed a pillar of fire towards him. Eevee/Gengar rolled to avoid this attack, but it was too late. The flamethrower attack struck fast as Charmander landed! The badly burned fox pokémon moaned on the ground as Charmander picked him up, holding him up by his neck.
“Get out.” Charmander growled.
“You really would do it wouldn’t you?” Eevee/Gengar asked in disbelief, “You would kill him.”
“No.” Charmander replied, “I wouldn’t kill him unless he told me to. But I’ll do the next best thing.”
“HYPER BEAM!” Blakii yelled.
Charmander dropped Eevee/Gengar and threw himself to the ground as a golden beam of powerful energy slammed into Eevee/Gengar. As the beam dissipated, Eevee/Gengar lay motionless on the ground as Blakii panted tiredly.
“Just know that you’ve forced our hands in this Gengar.” The umbreon panted.
“I’m so sorry Eevee.” Charmander said as his voice cracked, “Forgive me.”
Blakii walked up to Eevee/Gengar and picked him up. Without hesitation, Blakii gripped the back of Eevee/Gengar’s neck and pulled. Charmander watched in horror as Gengar was pulled out of Eevee. Soon, Blakii was holding both of the unconscious pokémon.
He flung down Gengar and gently set Eevee down.
“Take Eevee and send word that Gengar has been defeated.” Blakii ordered, “I’ll finish this and then join up later.”
Charmander nodded and dragged Eevee away from the scene as Blakii drew his sword.
When Eevee awoke, he once again found himself lying in the same cot he had been after using his hyper beam.
“EEVEE!” a voice cried happily, “You’re alright!”
Eevee was suddenly embraced by a happy Charmander.
“What happened?” Eevee asked when Charmander released him, “And how long have I been out?”
“About three days now. But you don’t remember?” Charmander asked, clearly surprised.
Eevee shook his head. The last thing he remembered was falling to the ground as a cold feeling ran through his body. After that, everything was a blank until he had just woken up.
“Gengar possessed you.” Charmander explained, “We had to knock you out to force him out of you.”
“What about the rest of the fighting?” Eevee asked.
“Crazy story.” Charmander grinned, “I was told after I’d gotten you to safety. Groudon and the other legends showed up to fight along side our forces about an hour after the fighting had started, the entire enemy force broke and ran.”
“Did we lose anyone?” Eevee asked.
Charmander looked down and said, “We did. According to the others, we lost quite a few. They were better armed, had better armor, and out numbered our side three to one. Blakii’s taking it hard.”
“How hard?”
“It’d be easier to show you.”
“Show me.”
Eevee got off the cot and took a minute to steady himself. His body was still weak, but after a minute he followed Charmander out to the graveyard.
The chilling wind blew across the dry field of headstones. A new section had been added to the fenced off fields. New graves and shining new marble headstones had been added into this section. The sun reflected off a headstone that had been carved from a giant ruby.
It was in front of this one that Blakii and Vulpix were standing, their heads and ears lowered sadly. When he looked up, the umbreon saw Charmander and Eevee walking up to him, Eevee looking over the rows of new graves with a look of shock.
“You shouldn’t be surprised.” Blakii said, “We all knew the risk of this battle would be the loss of many of our fellow pokémon.”
“I know.” Eevee said quietly, then asked, “Who’s this one for?”
Blakii looked away from the stone as Vulpix replied, “The one who died leading the charge.”
Eevee read the name, “Charizard.”
“He was my best friend.” Blakii said, “He died the way he would have wanted to. Fighting for what’s right.”
“I’m sorry.” Eevee said quietly.
“Don’t be.” Blakii replied, “Charizard was one of the bravest pokémon I knew. But his death wasn’t in vain. We won the fighting and we’re free of Gengar’s tyrannical rule. His name will go down in history with the others who died in that fight.”
Charmander and Eevee nodded in reply.
The days passed as Blakii and a team of psychic pokémon worked feverishly on their end of the deal. Eevee and Charmander had fulfilled their part by fighting along side Blakii for the freedom of their world. Now, Blakii had to find a way to send the two home.
Finally, the day came.
Eevee and Charmander were standing nearby as several psychic pokémon combined their power. The sound of a cannon being fired ripped across the land as the light blinded them for a few seconds.
When they could see again, Eevee and Charmander were stunned. A beautiful, swirling pool of energy stood before them like a gateway to dreams. Flashes of golden light flashed her and there as the energy swirled inwards towards a central point. Finally, after months of being in this world, they could finally go home.
“We’re not sure exactly what will happen,” A Kadabra warned, “But we’ve done everything we can. I won’t try to explain the technical side of it, but I will say that it took a lot more power than we expected.”
“Let’s hope for the best then.” Eevee replied, “Ready Charm?”
“Ready.” Charmander replied.
“Good luck you two.” Blakii said, “We are in your debt.”
“Think nothing of it.” Eevee replied, “Just glad we could help.”
Eevee took a deep breath as he and Charmander walked into the portal.
Lightning flashed across the sky as the storm continued to pick up. Rain drenched the land as dark clouds rolled slowly overhead. Thunder boomed loudly as the wind swept rain pounded the windows of the Nexus base.
Pokémon of all kinds were watching the storm from whatever safety they could find when a lightning bolt raced down from the black skies above. It struck in the middle of an open field a mile away, lighting the area around it for that split second. The sound of thunder echoed across the sky.
For that spilt second, two dark figures had been lit up. One looked like a fox. The other, a lizard with a flaming tail. The wind pushed against the two as they looked to each other. Laughing happily, the lizard embraced the fox. When it released the fox, the fox nodded towards the direction of the Nexus base. They both began walking towards it, hunched over as the wind tried to push them back.
Latias and Latios were still watching the storm when the two figures became apparent. A black fox and lizard, trying to make their way to safety. Latias looked over them as lightning lit up the area, revealing their identities. Her shocked mind and heart began to race. Was the storm playing tricks on her?
Then, the door sprang open as the two rushed inside, panting and soaking wet.
“EEVEE!” Latias cried happily as she embraced the waterlogged fox pokémon, “You’re alive!”
“I don’t recall being otherwise.” Eevee replied as he nuzzled her, “Any chance we could dry off?”
Latias smiled as she set him back down and went to get something to dry them with. A minute later, she returned with two towels. As Charmander dried himself, Latias dried Eevee. Now that the fox pokémon was back to his four legged self again, it was a lot harder to do much of anything that required hands.
“So what happened to you two?” Latios asked, “My sister has been worried sick for you.”
Eevee and Charmander looked to each other and smirked.
“Get the others once the storm ends.” Eevee said with a grin, “It’s a long story.”
