Part 2: What’s behind portal number 1?After the portal had taken a full grip on the two, Eevee’s vision turned to black. He felt the sensation continue to pull him towards the other side of the portal. He wondered just how long this portal was. Suddenly, Eevee felt himself slam into the hard earth. The second he hit it, he blacked out.
Once Eevee regained consciousness, he immediately thought about how long he’d been out. But with the pain still running through his body, he couldn’t think straight. His entire body ached from the impact, but Eevee sat up and shook his head, trying to shake off the headache that had accompanied his quick, head first meeting with the hard, dry ground. He kept his eyes closed for a minute until the pain he was feeling dissipated. Once he opened his eyes, the pokémon noticed that something was very wrong.
As soon as he’d opened his eyes, Eevee knew that the portal hadn’t done what had been planned. Or if it had, they were in a new area that neither Eevee or Charmander had never seen. A barren wasteland lay stretched out before them. Very little grass was growing, and the patches that had were yellow and dying. A slight breeze was blowing through his fur, but it wasn’t any relief. The sun was beating down on them, and it was a lot hotter than it had been when Eevee and Charmander left the Cryptic Cave that the portal had been created in.
But what really scared Eevee wasn’t that they were somewhere new, but what had happened to the two pokémon. As Eevee got to his feet, he realized something. He had pushed himself off the ground with a pair of hands, not paws. It was then that Eevee cried out in surprise as he realized that his body had changed its form.
He was a lot taller than he should be for an eevee. In fact, he was standing upright! Then he realized that he was standing on just two feet instead of four. He looked down and saw that his legs and feet had grown to support his new body. Now, they were more like human legs and feet than those of an eevee.
As Eevee looked over the rest of his body he saw that his tail had also grown in size. It was longer and slightly fluffier than it had been, but still kept it same colors. He felt his head and noticed that nothing had changed except it was larger and his ears were a bit longer.
Eevee looked over to Charmander to see if he was the same. He was mostly the same. Charmander had grown a lot as well. His tail, legs, arms, and body were all increased. Other than that, he still looked like a charmander. Then again, Charmander had been upright to begin with, Eevee hadn’t.
But something else struck Eevee; the two were both donning something they hadn’t been when they had entered the portal. Silver colored armor covered Charmander’s chest and stomach areas. At his shoulders were two plates of a darker colored armor. These covered his shoulders completely as another layer sat under it, protecting his upper arms. His waist and legs were also armored. The back of the armor around his waist had a hole so that Charmander’s tail was able to move freely.
Eevee looked down over himself and realized that he had the same armor. Feeling around his neck, Eevee found that he still had the neckerchief that he had on when they had been sent through, but the badge and rank were now on the left shoulder plate of the armor, and the team’s insignia was on the right.
“Charm?” Eevee asked.
“Yeah, I see it too.” Charmander said as he looked himself over, “What happened to us?”
“I don’t know.” Eevee said, “But I think we’d better contact Mewtwo and the others.”
Charmander nodded in agreement and began to examine their new surroundings. Eevee turned on the microphone and tried to contact Mewtwo, but all he got in return was a blast of noisy static. He sighed and took the mike out of his ear.
“Well, that idea failed.” Eevee said sadly, “We’re stuck out here with no way of knowing where we are or what we’ve become.”
“Maybe they know.” Charmander said pointing out to something.
Eevee looked out to where Charmander was pointing. A small band of pokémon, a team of four, was approaching them. They looked the same way Eevee and Charmander did, covered in armor and walking upright.
“HEY!” Charmander yelled, “Can you help us? We’re sort of lost.”
Eevee watched as the group stopped. It looked like they were talking amongst themselves.
“Think they’ll help us?” Eevee asked.
“I hope so.” Charmander replied, “If not, we’ll just wonder in that direction until we come across a town or something.”
As Eevee turned away to look for any signs of a town on the horizon, he heard something. It sounded familiar somehow. Then he realized what it was he was hearing. Eevee turned back and saw something orange racing towards them. Instinct kicked in and Eevee pushed Charmander to the ground as a pillar of flame sped over where his head had been only a second earlier.
“Did they just attack us?!” Charmander asked out of surprise.
“Well, I don’t think they were welcoming us.” Eevee replied, “But why would they suddenly attack us like that?”
“Maybe they didn’t hear us.” Charmander said as he began to stand up.
As he did, a powerful burst of electricity knocked him into the air. Charmander cried out as he flew back a couple of feet and then hit the ground with a loud metallic thud. Eevee stayed low to the ground as he moved to his friend.
“You ok?” Eevee asked.
“I think so.” Charmander replied weakly, “But that was a lot of power.”
“Stay here and rest for a minute.” Eevee said, “They may come to see if we’re knocked out. Once they do, we might be able to get some answers.”
Charmander nodded in agreement.
The two pokémon remained where they were for a few minutes. Once they heard the sound of approaching footsteps, Eevee stood up. The second he did, Eevee knew he’d made a fatal mistake. As soon as he had started to stand, he was hit by a powerful blast of air.
“Stay down if you know what’s good for you.” A gruff voice said.
Eevee groaned as he sat up and shook his head. Next thing he knew, Eevee was back down on the ground. There was a hand around his neck, the other was pulled back, ready to strike with a devastating slash.
“Stand down.” A voice said, “We don’t know if they’re a threat or not. We don’t even know who they are.”
The hand released Eevee’s neck. He looked over to Charmander and saw that he was still on his back.
“What gives?” Eevee asked as he rubbed his neck, “All we asked was for some help.”
Another odd pokémon walked up to him and began to examine Eevee. This one, Eevee could recognize easily due to its ears, tail, and color. A flareon!
Once he realized this, an Absol, apparently a female, walked up to the flareon examining Eevee and asked, “Well?”
“The eevee appears to be mostly unhurt, Ma’am. Minor HP loss from your Razor Wind attack, but it’ll heal up.” It replied, “Judging by his armor’s marking, he also seems to be the leader of the charmander.”
“What’s the charmander’s status?”
“Wounded pretty badly from Jolteon’s Shockwave, but other than that, he should recover.” The flareon replied.
“That’s good to know.” Absol said, the she grabbed Eevee by the collar of his armor and pulled him off the ground, “Now we can get some answers.”
Eevee began to protest when Absol slammed him into the ground again. This time, she moved quickly, putting a hand around his throat, keeping the pokémon pinned down under her. As Eevee began to struggle, he noticed that Absol’s other hand was soon engulfed in a small, but powerful, whirlwind. She aimed this hand at his chest.
“You might as well stop struggling.” Absol said dangerously, “The first one was just to take you down a bit. This one will force that chest plate off. The third will KO you.”
Eevee stopped struggling. Every second that passed, Eevee felt the air whipping out from it growing stronger. Another Razor Wind attack was being prepared. This time, Absol would have a close-up and easy to hit target if she did attack.
“Now,” Absol said in a deadly tone, “how the hell did you two end up way out here without detection? And please do not waste my time with lies. We’ll find out sooner or later if your story it true or not.”
Eevee thought quickly. Truthfully, he really had no idea just what had happened. And he knew that Charmander didn’t know any more than he did. Eevee’s only way out of this was if something distracted this Absol.
“I don’t know.” Eevee choked, “We really don’t know what happened.”
“Wrong answer.” Absol replied darkly.
Just as Absol was about to drive the attack into his armor, another column of flames scorched the earth beside them. But instead of dissipating like a normal flamethrower attack would, it encircled the six pokémon like a wall. Then it began to slowly close in.
Instantly, Absol releases Eevee and started barking orders. Eevee crawled to Charmander’s side and tried to help his friend to stand. Suddenly, Charmander fell back to the ground, but not because of his wounds.
Eevee had ducked down when he saw the rapidly approaching form of a large object through the flames. Not a second later, a pokémon had tackled Absol to the ground. An armor clad houndour had been dropped in like a bomb by a dragon that had flown quickly through the fires. Seconds later, a second pokémon, a vulpix, charged in through the fires and take down the flareon, then attacked the jolteon with an uppercut to the jaw.
The fourth pokémon tried to run, but a black, fox-like pokémon charged him from the side. Metal impacted metal as this new arrival brought down the fourth enemy with several lightning fast strikes to weak points in the light armor, and then a final throw to the ground.
“Cut the flames Charizard.” The black one yelled, “But stick around, we may need to make a quick exit.”
The wall of flames dissipated and a pokémon walked up to Eevee and Charmander. Eevee recognized the black fur and yellow rings immediately. An umbreon had led a team to their rescue. He looked them over as the other two took supplies from a pack that had been on Absol’s back. He turned away as a large dragon landed.
“Well?” the charizard asked.
“It could be. But if it is, it’d be a miracle.” The umbreon replied.
“We never did find their bodies, Blakii.” The charizard said.
“You’ve got a point there.” Blakii replied looking back at Eevee and Charmander as the vulpix helped them to their feet, “But it’s still pretty unlikely.”
Once she had, Charmander immediately collapsed. But before he could hit the ground, Eevee caught him.
“You ok Charm?” Eevee asked worriedly.
“I don’t think so.” Charmander replied weakly, “That electrical jolt did some major damage. I may be down a lot of HP from it.”
“You are.” Blakii said, walking over to them, “Here, this’ll help.”
He took a large, blue berry from a pack he was wearing and handed it to Charmander, who immediately wolfed it down. A few seconds later, Charmander felt his strength returning as his HP raced back up to full health. Charmander stood up and looked at Blakii with a smile.
“Thanks.” Charmander said happily.
“Ok, what the heck is going on here?” Eevee asked edgily, “We’re sent through a portal, end up here looking like we do now, get randomly attacked, and now we’ve been saved by you four. What gives?!”
“A portal?” Blakii asked confused.
“Well, that would explain the massive surge of psychic energy Mew picked up.” The houndour said gruffly as he walked over, “And why we fought this recon squad instead of an assault unit.”
“That was no real fight. We simply charged in and now they are KOed at our feet. It was way too easy.” Blakii commented as he looked over the fallen squad, “Even if my sword wasn’t being repaired, I wouldn’t have needed it.”
“So, what should we do with these two?” Vulpix asked, looking back at Eevee and Charmander.
“We take them back with us.” Blakii replied, “Everyone gather close.”
Eevee and Charmander looked to each other. Eevee shrugged and the two walked up to the team that had saved them.
Blakii pulled out a round object that the eevee recognized to be an escape orb. Blakii set the orb down among them. The orb began to spin, light pouring out of it as it picked up speed. Eevee felt the familiar feeling of being pulled into the orb.
“At least the items and attacks seem to be the same.” Eevee thought as he let the feeling take him.
In a brilliant flash of light, the six pokémon vanished from the wasteland. It wasn’t until hours later that a second recon team arrived at the location that Absol and her team had been defeated. An armor clad sceptile walked up to the squad and looked them over. He shook his head with disappointment.
As he turned away, another pokémon walked up and slipped a revive seed into Absol’s mouth. A few seconds after he had lifted her head up into his lap and forced her to swallow the seed, Absol opened her eyes. As she did, the sceptile walked over to her and asked what had happened.
“I don’t know for sure.” Absol replied nervously, “They came from out of the fire. I don’t know who they were or how they did it. It all happened so fast, so well executed.”
The sceptile looked over the damage that had been done. A ring of burnt earth was all that was left of the attack. He knew exactly what had happened and who had done it.
“Revive the rest of them.” He ordered, “We’ll need to find out who attacked them and what they got away with.”
Kimori already had an idea of who had attacked this squad. The sceptile’s hand gently closed around the hilt of his sword, preparing for a threat that had already left.
“You win this time, Blakii.” Kimori thought to himself as he released the hilt of his sword, “But we still have a score to settle. I will not rest until my honor is restored and you are dead.”
