The Journal of Team Nexus: The HiddenPart one: Lost
The wind and ice roared across the snowy plains before the fox pokémon as he tried to walk forward. His feet left a trail of prints as he pushed onwards through the blinding blizzard. He shivered as the cold bit into his skin under his fur.
“I’m going to have to find shelter and soon.” Eevee thought to himself as he pushed forward, “But how? I can’t see more than ten feet ahead of me in this stuff.”
Eevee suddenly tripped and found himself lying in the snow. As he tried to stand, he could feel the cold beginning to set into his bones. The fox pokémon struggled to his feet to press on. But he could feel his strength slipping away. It would be long before he was too weak to continue. And without an escape orb, he’d be lost out here until someone found him.

Back at the base, Latias and Charmander were looking out into the snowstorm. Both of them knew that Eevee was out there, but they both thought that the eevee would have come back by now. The fact that he hadn’t returned was starting to worry both of them.
“It’s getting worse.” Charmander noted as he leaned against the wall, “And Eevee’s still out there.”
“Do you think he’s alright?” Latias asked worriedly.
“I don’t know.” Charmander admitted with a shake of his head, “This is the first time he’s gone out completely alone.”
Latias looked to him with shock, “Y-you let him go out there without anyone to help?!”
“Hey, neither of us expected this.” Charmander replied roughly as he motioned to the snow outside, “The storm was supposed to miss us completely!”
Latias looked out the window, wiping it with her hand to see outside. Although the heat of a nearby fire, combined with the heat of Charmander’s tail, was keeping the Nexus base warm, the flying pokémon shivered.
“Charmander?” She asked.
“Hmm?” Charmander replied.
“Maybe we should go out and look for Eevee.” Latias suggested.
“Are you crazy?!” Charmander asked in shock, “You actually want to go out into that blizzard?”
“Eevee would do the same for you.” Latias replied bluntly.
“Yeah…Eevee is crazy like that.” Charmander replied, his tail lowering in defeat, “But if I go out there that wind and ice could put out my tail flame. Do you know what happens when a charmander’s flame goes out completely?”
“Unfortunately I do.” Latias replied, looking around, “But what if we could protect your tail?”
“I guess I could risk it then.” Charmander replied, watching as Latias looked around, “What’re you looking for?”
“A ball or something.” Latias replied distractedly.
“Ok, first you want to go find Eevee and now you want to play?” Charmander asked, scratching his head, “You sure are strange sometimes, Latias.”
“No, I had an idea.” Latias explained, “If we cut a hole in the bottom, maybe we could fit your tail into the hole so that it would be safe from the storm.”
Charmander’s eyes lit up. As soon as she had explained it, Charmander remembered something he and Eevee had used during the incident that had forced them to flee for their lives when everyone thought that Eevee was the human in the Ninetails legend.
“Be right back.” Charmander said.
Before Latias could reply, Charmander was already gone into another room.
“Charmander?” Latias asked, “Charm, where’d you go?”
As she looked around, the latias suddenly heard something that sounded like “eureka!”
“Charmander?” Latias asked.
“Found it!” the fire lizard shouted in reply.
“Found what?” Latias wondered to herself as the charmander walked back into the room.
But now, he had something in his hands. A round, crystal clear object with a hole in the bottom. Charmander smiled as he held it, rolling it in his hands.
“This is something we managed to make when me and Eevee were on the run from all the other rescue teams.” Charmander explained, “I take it he told you all about that.”
Latias nodded, remembering the conversation she’d had with the eevee a few weeks earlier.
“So this is…a what?” she asked, clearly confused by the object.
“A used tracking orb.” Charmander explained, “We used it and then Absol helped us to cut a hole in the bottom that fit my tail. I slipped it inside and my tail’s width prevented it from dropping to far onto my tail. It protected me then, and I think it’ll protect me now.”
“You think?” Latias asked with an unsure look in her eyes.
“Well it has been about a year since we last went out into weather like that.” Charmander replied honestly, “But I’m sure it’ll work.”
“As long as you think so.” Latias nodded, still unsure of the idea, “But I still think we alone can’t do this.”
“So what do you think would help?” Charmander asked.
“Another rescue team.” Latias replied.
“You don’t mean…?”
“I do. We’ll need to ask Team Dusk for help.”

Back out in the blizzard, Eevee struggled on. His body temperature was still dropping, but at a much more dangerous rate. His mind wasn’t thinking straight, and he was getting more and more tired as time passed, but the fox pokémon wasn’t ready to go down yet. Although his body was cold, his eyes held a fiery determination to complete his task.
Now as he trudged on, the pokémon recalled his mission. That morning, before the storm had hit near Mount Freeze, the team had received a note about a mysterious new area opened up by an avalanche. Since no one dared to enter it, they’d asked Eevee to explore it. Being curious about it himself, the eevee had agreed. Now, the idea didn’t seem so good.
Eevee knew he had to find somewhere he could wait out the blizzard, but without being able to see more than few feet ahead of him, the eevee knew he didn’t even stand a ghost of a chance. And now as the storm only worsened, the fox pokémon stumbled headfirst into the snow.
As he lay, Eevee realized that he couldn’t move. His legs refused to budge despite his brain yelling at them to. The cold began to set into his bones as the world began to fade. But then, something happened.
As the world to Eevee’s eye blackened slowly, he saw a strange form approach him. It looked foxish in body, but it seemed to have something hanging off its head, like long ribbons, and its ears were shaped like diamonds. It looked at him for a minute, and then yelled something. More of the creatures approached him.
Finally, as Eevee’s eyes finally gave in and closed, the four creatures backed away.
* * *
“So that’s the problem.” Latias said in closing, “Will you help us?”
The two other pokémon in front of her looked to each other, then back up at her.
“Are you absolutely sure he’s in trouble?” one asked, “I mean, this is Eevee of Team Nexus we’re talking about.”
“Yes, but this is his first time all alone out there.” Charmander replied sadly, “And I have a feeling something’s wrong.”
The two looked to each other again, “May we have a minute to discuss this?”
“Of course.” Latias said.
As the two talked, Latias looked them over. One, the leader, was a female espeon. Her purple fur, shimmering ruby set into its forehead, and twin tipped tail gave that away easily. This was Miyuko, leader of the Dusk rescue team.
The other was another eevee. Unlike other eevees, this one had a black slash around his middle. A mark left from a fight between it and the legendary warrior of fire, Moltres that ended with a saved life and Ronin banished from the village near the base of the mountain. This was Ronin, an eevee with a remarkable ability. According to what Latias and Charmander knew, Ronin could greatly extend his use of the quick attack for hours at a time. This made him one of the fastest things alive in their area.
But what had made Latias immediately think of them as a possible rescue force was that Ronin lived near the base of Mount Freeze and had done extensive training in the blizzard conditions with his leader and lover, Miyuko and a select number of the Team Dusk members. After a year of these conditions, the eevee had grown used to this sort of weather and excelled in snowy rescues for the team.
“Alright, we’ll do it on one condition.” Miyuko said, turning back to Latias and Charmander.
“Don’t worry, we’ll think of a reward.” Latias assured her.
“Not what I had in mind.” Miyuko replied, shaking her head.
“Then what is?” Charmander asked.
Miyuko thought for a second, then looked to Ronin. The eevee nodded once, signaling his approval of her idea. He knew Miyuko well enough to know what the espeon was thinking.
In order for Ronin to become a fully active member of the Dusk rescue team, he had to be able to return to his old home for missions. Unfortunately, the second he stepped within the area of the village, Moltres would know. And if Moltres knew, it would end Ronin’s life without a second thought.
They needed a way to get Moltres to agree to let Ronin back into the village. And so far, only Eevee and Charmander had been able to stand up to, and defeat, Moltres. If they could do it again, maybe Moltres would give in.
“We need a favor in return.” Miyuko stated calmly, “Something only Eevee and Charmander can do.”
“Name it.” Charmander replied.
“We’ll need you two to talk to Moltres.” Miyuko stated, “Try to convince it to let Ronin back into that area. If he can’t return to the village at the base, he can’t become a full member of the rescue team.”
“No promises, but I’ll see what I can do.” Charmander replied.
“All we need is for you to try.” Miyuko said.
Charmander nodded and put out his hand. Miyuko and Ronin both laid a paw on it, and finally Latias followed suit.
“Alright,” Charmander said, “let’s go find Eevee.”
