That's a little hard to explain... I chose the main colour as dark blue and use lighter blue (opacity down brush) and colour it and also black to darken some parts, green for the "land" the person is standing on and do the same.

And also, use dough and burn tool set to highlights to make lighter/darker.

Create a layer on top of background and colour the green for aurora. Use dough tool to lighten(highlight)

And the stars, you find it in photoshop, a brush that I use XD
