Description Franz Kafka had a sense of humor.
Not many people got the joke, but it was there nonetheless.

He was known to laugh out loud while reading his stories to others.

His sense of humor was apparently famous enough to create the trope Kafka Comedy. ย I think I picked up on it in The Trial.

Well, he deserves it (the trope, I mean)

I kept giggling while reading The Metamorphosis...

Yayyay, you also laughed reading the beginning of metamorphosis? His hurrying up and his parent's behaviour is just too hilarious XD

At some point he scares the hell out of his mother and she ends up sitting on the table or something, only, they were having breakfast, so she basically ends up sitting on the breakfast. It's pure comedy!

Maybe I haven't read enough Kafka, but I always have to smile when people talk about how depressing his works are XD

yeah, kafka can be fun, but kafka readers - are never.

eeza In reply to iLikeSuprematismus [2011-03-30 12:25:52 +0000 UTC]

Hell, Kafka hadn't even finished writing the novel! But since his stories apparently make so little sense, people seem to think there must be a deeper meaning, otherwise... what's the point? As for me, I'm not even sure there is a point...

I know. It's not ALL angst, people, sometimes you are allowed to laugh at Kafka's giant bugs and whatnot.

ak-matariel [2010-12-02 23:26:58 +0000 UTC]

Yup, people don't get it when I say it, they just say "woot", I sigh and say "Do you know who is franz kafka?" and they just say "who?"; I just hate that. Of course there are people who get it and laugh out loud.

Kafka had a great sense of humour... shame not many people notice it Great picture!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

eeza In reply to dontforgetfrank [2009-06-05 08:44:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
Sometimes I wonder if he knew people would read every possible meaning into his stories, usually contradicting each other. I can't help thinking that, yes, he thought about it and it amused him.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

dontforgetfrank In reply to eeza [2009-06-05 12:50:46 +0000 UTC]

I've often wondered that too! I think, to be honest, they sometimes read too much into it.
There is obviously an element of the bureaucracy, society, Jewishness, but ultimately it's his own fears and anxieties. It's all him! Not in a selfish way, but he wrote for him. To get that "tremendous world" inside his head, out into the open.

(Kafka rant over! )

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

eeza In reply to dontforgetfrank [2009-06-07 19:27:39 +0000 UTC]

I agree with you.

And then people end up writing essays about him with titles such as "The Commentator's Despair", no kidding
