Description From Mass Effect, Commander Shepard and Garrus Vakarian.

This one is charcoal again. Thought about giving Shep some underwear, but I felt it might distract from the contrast between their bodies.

Oh, and no - they aren't kissing. Not really anyway. More like sharing a tender moment.

Thanks! The whole turian anatomy gets me some positive and negative feedback, but for me it's more about exploring some of ideas I've been tossing around in my head.

I actually have lots of drawings on the go... I'm terrible when it comes to finishing things though.

ah ha! I'd like to do that, but I often find these drawings mentally exhausting. I usually only draw for ten minutes or so, wander off for an hour or so, then come back and draw some more.

Terrible work ethic, but I eventually get things done

This is my third try at leaving a comment here and a part of "This is perfect", I don't know what more to say... You've left me speachless...
The pose is very natural and endearing, I didn't thought they were kissing, but more like caresing each other with their faces. Maybe a tender lick or a brush of Shepard's lips, but not a proper kiss.
I understand that you enjoy drawing the characters. They are a lovely couple and about the underwear... I would leave it as it is. Either you dress them both or leave them nakes, but IMO, drawing underwear would kill the mood of the drawing...

efleck In reply to ErsbethShadowsong [2011-07-25 14:46:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the underwear just seemed wrong, but I'm sure nudity makes some people uncomfortable.

I was really going for a tender moment, where their bodies are still strange to each other, but they are familiar enough with the face of the other to sort of start their connection there.

I don't know. I guess I was really trying to capture that intense trust they have in each other.

Thanks for the feedback! I love hearing from you!

ErsbethShadowsong In reply to efleck [2011-07-27 21:01:43 +0000 UTC]

If you want to avoid things that make some people unconfortable, you'll be drawing flowers. IMO, you should draw whatever makes you feel confortable and the Muse instructs you to do. Naked people is a reality, because, under the clothes we wear, we are naked!

You've illustrated the moment perfectly. Their faces is what they must be more used to, rather than their bodies, so I think you've pointed the connection very well here. And I think like you do, they share a deep trust in each other, at least, that's what Shepard says during the romance dialogue, which fits perfectly with the atmosphere you've created, both alone in Shepard's loft.

No problem! Your pieces inspire me to comment

Heh heh flowers. It's funny that you say that because when I think of all the people I went to school with, all the ones that drew flowers all the time were very similar people...

I was going to write other stuff, but I'm going to post it on your page instead...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ErsbethShadowsong In reply to efleck [2011-08-08 09:26:38 +0000 UTC]

Don't get me wrong, drawing and painting flowers are not that easy, but I always get the impression that people expect that when I say I draw: Oh, she's a woman, so she must paint flowers, glasses and bottles, horses, cute kittens... I remember wearing a T-Shirt with one of my pics with Garrus/FemShep at the office and one girl exclaimed "Oh, how nice, is it an eagle?" "No, actually it's an alien". Priceless. Or another guy at work: "I've been told that you like comics, isn't it odd for a girl?" Riiiiiiiight!

I'll keep saying that you must draw whatever you feel inspired to do, be it aliens, naked or dresses humans, horses, spaceships, cars... or flowers! Just do it because you want, not because an archaic social convention spurs you to do it.

efleck In reply to ErsbethShadowsong [2011-08-10 14:13:21 +0000 UTC]

Ah true enough. I know exactly what you mean. Being a girl and liking video game, comics, building things, all those activities that society says I'm not supposed to like because I'm a girl. Even my job - programming, websites and photography - I'm constantly appalled by the people who come into the office to sell us internet marketing and other computer related crap who speak to me like I'm an ignorant, mindless girl (it doesn't help that I'm blonde and well, err... chesty...). I'm constantly having to put these people in their place, and I should haven't to, but I know it's not every going to change (unless I put on some sort of nerd costume that makes me as unattractive as possible).

The office IT guy is supposed to be just that, a guy. Just like woman are suppose to paint flowers and bubbling brooks as a hobby until it's time for them to pump out babies.

Thank god for Mass Effect.

ErsbethShadowsong In reply to efleck [2011-08-10 15:08:11 +0000 UTC]

Society sucks! I'm not sure if you're familiar with a TV show called Big Bang Theory, but there's a scene where a female character enters a comic shop and that's exactly what happened the first time I entered one with a (female) friend.
Believe me, I'm brunnette and not very chesty, but I get the same reactions. Even my mum complained about the comicbooks or literature I read about. At some kind of level, I'd like to show them how wrong they are and that there's no longer such a thing as female and male jobs, but I don't have the energy to argue with narrow minded people. I prefer to hang up with my boyfriend and friends, who know me and accept me as I am (not that they are different!)
Pump out babies! brilliant!!!

Yes, thank God for Mass Effect... HAve yo tried Dragon Age?

efleck In reply to ErsbethShadowsong [2011-08-10 17:18:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, screw society. They can shove it!

I have Dragon Age origins, which I actually purchased with ME2 (along with prototype) in March.

Prototype was unplayable. And I started playing Dragon Age, only to take it out and start a new ME2 play through instead. I'm going to give it another chance though. Maybe this week as I'm taking a few days off.

Oh, your drawings are looking good by the way... really liked that one you did with Shep and Gar on the bed with the black background... hot. I should really post a comment there instead of here...

ErsbethShadowsong In reply to efleck [2011-08-16 11:10:58 +0000 UTC]

Very very true.

I started playing Dragon Age Origins and I was very reluctant to play ME (I'm a disaster with shooters). But the moment I started... And learned how to use a gun... Then I was hooked.

Thanks! I've also seen some of your new works, but I'll leave comments there

This is a beautiful moment that you've captured! And I absolutely love the medium. I wish I had a lick of artistic talent. Of course, if I did, I'd probably have more reason to quit my job and write/draw Mass Effect fancomics full time, so maybe it's for the best!

Well done, and keep up the great work! I wouldn't call this questionable at all.

Quitting my job and doing art is a constant thought in the back of my head, and realistically probably financial suicide lol, for me anyway.

I'm glad you like the drawings! It's great to hear from people who enjoy them as much as I like making them.
