Hello, all! I hope you're doing well! We're back with SODOR FACTS. Last time, we covered something about Ashima. This time we're going to cover who is the first character ever created in the Thomas & Friends franchise.Well, some may think it's Thomas, but...well, you're wrong. Thomas is the most popular and the first one that appeared on TV, but he wasn't the first one created.
Now, I'm sure you'll think it's Edward then, and well, technically, yes and no. You see, Edward is the first RWS character created, but he wasn't the first created for the franchise as a whole. So, I'm sure most of you will be wondering, who is it then?
Well, the answer may shock you, but the FIRST THOMAS CHARACTER EVER CREATED IS..................................................Annie. I'm sure you'll be wondering: "But what? How? DIdn't she first appear in Thomas' book? What are you getting at?" Well, for those who don't know, Wilbert Awdry had model trains ever since childhood, and when he was a teenager, in 1927, he built a coach for his and his brother's layout. This coach would indeed be the basis for Annie. Therefore, making Annie the first Thomas chareacter created. In 1946, Wilbert was writing his RWS books and had two coaches be given to Thomas for his branch line trains. When he began writing stories for "Tank Engine Thomas Again", he began modelling and mapping the Island of Sodor, starting with Thomas' branch line. He made a small layout of the Ffarquhar branch, with a Thomas model custom made by himself, and used that old coach he had made back in 1927, and also made a brake coach, and then, Annie and Clarabel became actual characters. Off course, Edward is the first RWS character, but Annie was TECHNICALLY-SPEAKING, the first one created, as the coach Awdry built would eventually represent Annie many years later in his model layout, and also become the basis for Annie.
It's possible you may or may not know that, but I hope you might've at least learned something new! That's all for now! Cheers and see you next time!
