PREVIOUS: Lana: Part 2 - Bad Breaks

Lana and Angel were waiting in the doctor's office. After being sent for x-rays, they received some tough news.

"Lana, you broke your elbow. We will need to extend the current cast to include it. That means you'll need a new cast applied that goes from your fingers to just below your armpit."

"Really? Come on, it feels fine." Lana tried to move her elbow while hiding her pain, hoping to convince the doctor that it was fine.

"I'm sorry to say it's broken. The x-rays are quite clear," said the doctor, trying to be gentle.

"Angel, your leg is fractured. You're going to need a cast that goes from your toes to your thigh, unfortunately. You won't be able to run," said the doctor, sympathetically.

"Really? It's broken! I'm going to get a cast!" said Angel with enthusiasm.

"You seem quite excited for someone who just broke their leg!" said the doctor, smiling.

"She's always wanted one... apparently," said Lana, trying to make light of the situation.

"Yes, you'll need what's called a long leg cast," said the doctor, kindly.

"Okay!" Angel said, trying to hide her excitement, while Lana rolled her eyes.

"So, I'll need crutches, right? Like to walk around?" asked Angel, ignoring Lana's comment.

"Yes, your leg needs to be stabilized at an angle, so you won't be able to walk on it. We can provide you with the crutches," replied the doctor, reassuringly.

"Let me get those casts applied and get you out of that one, Lana," said the doctor as he left the room for even more supplies.

"What color are you going to pick, Lana?!" asked Angel with enthusiasm.

"Black," said Lana, bluntly.

"I want pink! I wonder if there is neon pink?" said Angel, considering all the possibilities.

"You think they can use two colors?" asked Angel.

"I don't know. Who cares? It's just a cast. Now I won't be able to bend my elbow. I guess I can still run and do all the workouts, minus anything requiring my arm," said Lana, trying to stay positive.

"Lana, just relax. It's okay…" Lana cut in.

"You've got to do leg raises. That's the only muscle you can use now in that leg, and we have to get back to running," said Lana, lost in her thoughts.

"Lana, can you stop? I swear I'm going to break your legs to get you to take a little time off," said Angel, sarcastically.

"You know I can't. I've got to keep moving," Lana replied, and Angel dropped the topic.

The doctor returned with a cart of supplies.

"What colors?"

"Black again," Lana said expressionless.

"Oh, sorry, your arm cast the other day used it all up. Is there another color?"

"How about, like, a dark red or something?" said Lana, smiling.

"Sure, we can do that. And you, Angel?"

"Can I get neon pink, but with a little black wrapped in there too?" asked Angel.

"Sure, I think I can make that work. Lana, you can go first if that's alright?"

"Sure," said Lana.

The doctor proceeded to wrap her arm in her new cast. Angel asked a ton of questions while Lana stayed silent.

"Your turn now, Angel," said the doctor with a smile.

Angel was fascinated with everything he was doing, the padding, placing the leg, but was most looking forward to the fibreglass.

"Ooooh, it feels cold. I thought it's supposed to be warm!" asked Angel.

"It will warm up and then cool off," he said.

Shortly after, she noticed it getting warm and commented.

"Is it sticky? It sounds tacky," Angel asked.

"Yup, it is. But it gets rock hard very soon."

Soon enough, Angel was wrapped in her new cast.

"Okay, try to move your leg, Angel."

"URRGGHHHHH … I can't! It's totally stuck!" she said excitedly.

"Yeah, it's a cast, Angel. That's what they are for," Lana said, trying to make her laugh.

"Okay, Angel, let me get you the crutches. Oh, you won't be able to wear any tight leggings as they won't go over the cast. Do you want a blanket to cover yourself as you leave?"

"Ooooh, it's so soft inside! This is awesome," said Angel, beaming.

Lana just rolled her eyes.

"Here you go. You can leave whenever you want. I hope I don't see you two again!" the doctor joked.

"Thanks, doc!" they both said.

"Lana, have you felt your cast? It's rough but also comfortable!" Angel said.

Lana paused for a minute. "I guess I won't be wearing my left shoe for a little bit, huh? That's a little sad," she said.

"Let's go," said Lana as she moved to help grab Angel's other shoe. "Don't forget to put a blanket on like a skirt. You know, since you cant put you leggings on” said Lana with a smile.
