Description An expression sheet for Static boy, the main character for my thesis. He discovers static electricity, and thinking it's his super power, sets off to defeat evil in the night. It was initially intended to have a comic book or campy, Adam West Era Batman feel to it, but I feel like it was lost in translation. I'm trying to edit the animatic to feature that design aesthetic and entertainment value better.

I liked the expression sheet the best. For once the drawings look alive and interesting, even a few months alter! you can see his personality perfectly. I really hope I can achieve this with my CG model.

You can see the rest of the concept work here, including color beats, character design and set design: [link]

As some of you can probably guess, yeah, that's Aiden Bidwell as a kid.

I'm trying to rally myself to work on my thesis more, so I thought I would post some of it to remind myself why I liked the idea..Or working on it at all. I've been struggling a lot this summer with the sheer workload between an actual job and a need to revise the animatic and build a set. I'm not in a good starting point as far as work load or emotional stability goes.

He is totally, completely, utterly, 100% adorable. And very... vivacious? Animated? DYNAMIC. That's the word. I can't wait to see more.

On the whole these designs are very consistent but there is one thing I noticed. I'm not sure if this character would be animated or not, but if he were the hair would probably be a problem as the left and right side views are inconsistent. The bulge in the fringe is always on the opposite side that the viewer sees but this wouldn't matter in a comic.

I just thought I'd point that out as you've been posting a lot of animation work lately, but otherwise they all tie together very well. You can definitely tell it's the same character throughout.

Yes, he will be animated, but in CG. If I can manage to get it to look okay in 3D, I won't have to worry about that, since the computer will keep it consistent. It has been a concern for me, but you never know until you get modeling!

I find modelling from sketches to be very loosely similar. If I concentrate too much on making the model look like the sketch without paying attention to what I'm doing it just turns out wrong.

Also, I usually read artists comments before leaving a comment, but for some reason I didn't on this occasion. Sorry about that, I know how annoying it can be.

Thanks! No problem. I'll have a lot of blend shapes on him.

I'm sorry that you're still not feeling so hot. :<

But these are looking great! Lots of nice shapes and expressions going on. I'm with you on hoping this transfers into CG space, but you're pretty good on modeling and we can cry together when we have to model our characters. |D;

Thanks! I really intend to spend FOREVER on the blend shapes. Becuase if the character can't perform, I'm SCREWED. D:

Same here. A lot of our characters is so based on how well they emote. >.>

Haha I think most any character is based on their ability to be themself.

This is true. I guess I mean that our characters need to be able to make crazy faces that most student models don't make? I don't know. I'm not thinking very much right now.

I still love these. There's a lot of life in these expressions, and I totally agree with Bluucat about how they have that comic sort of feel to them without losing your individualism. :>

Thanks! If only it was going to be traditionally animated.

I can definitely see the comic book feel in it, but it still has your style which is nice.
