Lovely! What type of canvas is this? I love the depth you got from working that textured canvas into the piece. Faved!

Thank you very much.
It's a Daler-Rowney double-primed oil painting canvas board 30x20 inches, unfortunately whether it's medium grained or whatever isn't listed on the back. It's not the best quality canvas board to use, I prefer to use the boards where the canvas is stretched right around on to the back, they're usually a little thicker, although this piece does have so many layers of paint on it that the canvas grain has almost completely vanished.

Yeah I'm fond of a tight heavier canvas too. Hmm. Nice to hear there's a bit of variety out there though. Most of what I see around here is the conventional white gessoed canvas - not much variety at all besides grain - and the fine grin is incredibly expensive. I plan on buying some material to make my own in the next year or so - some high quality linen, and some others. I already have wooden backframes so that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks!

I'd love to stretch my own canvases, it must be so much more rewarding. Right now though I'm not even working on canvas as don't have the space, everthing is getting done on paper.

Wow! i really like this! From the small preview, it looked like a Snowman standing while blood or something red was being thrown at him.

i'm sure you can cheat like me and put silhoettes of darkened areas on face on..
besides that, this is cool.keep painting on the same canvas, it starts to dictate its own rythym.

thanks it does doesn't it, certain shapes and colours will show through layer after layer of paint, it's a good way of creating that depth which I like but don't have a patience to build up in one go.

Thanks. It's the third or fourth piece I've painted on that board, hence the texture I would like to do more pieces with people or at least faces in them but the simple truth is that I don't have the ability to paint people quickly or the patience to do it slowly. It's something I need to work on. Thanks for the fave
