Description I made this for The Dreamlands , an upcoming film by director Huan Vu, loosely based H. P. Lovecraft’s Dream Cycle.

This is actually an earlier composition that later had to be cropped to fit into the film’s promo calendar, and adjusted to include an important symbol from the setting. The final, approved version looks like this: i78.photobucket.com/albums/j10…

Both versions have their merits (and faults!), but I feel the less busy version is closer to what I personally like.

How nice! I think that image didn't make it into the concepts used because they cut the female character. I still hope the film will be made, though.

Great!

That gives me a sense of warmth and peace.

Only if the lurker wasn't eavesdropping on the poor little girl. (kiddin)

Great work.

Thank you!

He IS supposed to be lurking! You know, pining after her, trying to remain unseen. I tried to make him look as non-creepy as possible, though.

Lovely work Eleni.  The bright glowing sky instantly impacts on the viewer and the composition is intriguing.  I like the purple veil in the foreground over on the right side, creates more depth.

Thanks, Niall! To this point I'm not quite sure if the composition works. There's an empty space at the centre that I feel might be awkward. Still, this is nothing compared to the cropped and much heavier version for the calendar. I'm glad I'm working digital at times like this; I could go back and just put together the elements I liked best for this one.

i've been looking forward to this film, having enjoyed die farbe, and long-time fan of lovecraft—especially the dream cycle. i am thrilled to learn that you are somehow involved.

Thanks, Jesse! My involvement was almost by accident; I supported the first campaign, sent a note to the director to clarify something about the perk I chose, and suddenly got asked whether I would be interested in contributing art for the project. Needless to say I was very excited to do so.

The beauty of this sunny dusk is way more painful, if you know last lines of the tale of Kuranes.
I love the light and the contrast dark part.
Wish there will be The White Ship, but he never comes again.

Thanks, Michael!

The whole of the Dream Cycle is steeped in a sense of longing for more or less this sort of imagined beauty. It's why these stories where my favourite from all of H.P. Lovecraft's works. In fact, they were my introduction to the fantasy genre back in 1994... so making this image was important to me.
