According to me, it's a pun because Maupassant was a writer (mot = word and passant = traveller/tourism : "meublés" are rooms for rental).

He has experiences a lot of adventures in the last couple of months, and though he is a very confident and friendly dog (as you can see from his smile), he has not made his way to dA very often.
