Certainly so. The northwest of Germany. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Friβ¦
Certainly an intersting part of he world (as so many others, of course )

They used to send prisoners to the peat bogs over here. Incredible poverty less than a century ago.

So did the Nazis in this country ...

A lot of what the Nazis did was very commonplace, at least before the war. There's lots of discussion over here about pointing certain populist parties to the pre-WWII period, when the stage was being set for the horrors committed later. And that stage was a lot more "normal" and accepted in the Western world than kids are taught in school today. Not at all to excuse the Nazis in any way, just to show that humans are fundamentally stupid and selfish, and that if things don't run out of hand like they did in Germany back then it's probably more a matter of chance than of human intelligence.

Certainly a lot of truth in your words. Peat bogs - to recall another aspect - are of course also source of a large amounts of mysteries and legends (not only the hound of the baskervilles)

And on occasion a leathery human body from the Stone Age is lifted out of them

Thanks, Richard - and yes, it comes out quite well, color-wise and compositional-wise The rails are just awesome, I also agree !
there is a busy road to the left. I had noticed the scene when driving past. Did a u-turn miles ahead and found a VERY dubious place to park the car. Then I had to sneak into this peak quarry?? - thing and was very fascinated by the intensity of the colors! Walked around quite a while.

It seems to me that there are many "photo ops" in that area.

Yes, yes. I was lucky to find this place. Though those peat bogy are wide - spread in the north, it is difficult to find access, especially to these areas where they are exploited. Here I was also basically trespassing. And as it is such an open countryside, it is so easy to be spotted

Plus it could be dangerous I would think. Sinking down into the abyss
