there's a good poem about that, let me see if i can find it - ah, it's by Blaga Dimitrova, it's called "Urgency" -
You wait for tomorrow,
for still, for otherwise, for may.
You wait for yourself.
The blade of grass doesn't wait
for the stone to be gone.
It pushes in the crack.
And then to what has grown
so urgently alive
the stone gives way.
I came across that in a song setting by Steve Lacy, on his album Vespers. I like the ending especially. The stone gives way!
