maybe a bit "heavy" ?

It is also what makes its charm. Architecture that we do not dare too much, marked by the egocentrism of some dictators

EintoeRn In reply to Sudlice [2014-07-20 09:37:01 +0000 UTC]
Indeed. Did a little research, but could not find anything. It is a building of the trade fair in Charleroi, Belgium.

There was a clue here, but the architectural style is not really Belgian ...
Thank you for the ride ...

It is the exposition center in Charleroi - very depressing, indeed !

Great photo, but this is a depressing place.Β It does have a Naziesque look to it. . .
π: 0 β©: 1
EintoeRn In reply to maxlake2 [2014-07-19 17:07:38 +0000 UTC]
It certainly is and has. You can see that from one of my previous comments ....
It is in Belgium, in Wallonie. No suspicion of Naziism there - maybe rather socialist realism i was thinking.
which is odd, of course, as this is the entrance to a trade fair ...
did i ever mention that i love Belgium for being so unpretentious ?

Hmmmm?Β Americans don't think of Belgium very often, unless it involves chocolate, or losing to them in the World Cup!
But yes, that it a very stark-looking structure, and not at all "happy."

- and do not forget the waffles and the finest french fries in the whole big world
one of my favorite neighboring countries by all means - with a slight preference for the french speaking part

I would like the French-speaking part also.Β I can speak and read enough French to avoid being electrocuted or poisoning myself to death!

it used to be very wealthy when wealth came from coal and steel - but now things have changed, and they have become the not so well loved cousins ...

I always love these... ..."layers" in your photographs... ...Your "geometric view" of our World...
Probably, if I could see this building... ...I would not like it, but I LOVE it in your photograph!

EintoeRn In reply to altergromit [2012-08-05 11:43:55 +0000 UTC]
It certainly is not a lovable building at all. In this case I believe the socialist realism has been adopted by a belgian architect. Nazis would have done quite a similar thing.
Similar results, different thoughts. While one side tries to promote the glory os socialism, the other side just tried to intimidate ...

which reminds me of "don camillo and peppone"
(though don camilllo always was a good christian democrat, not a nazi, of course)

Don Camillo? I read the stories about him when I was a boy! I haven't thought of them in years - loved them.
