It looks really nice, overall, except for the cogs. The way they are all just hanging in a bunch under the watch makes them seem like an afterthought, or a "I really want to make it look steampunk, so I'll just throw some cogs on it."

It's abstract, that's my explanation. =]
Thanks for the constructive criticism!

Abstract.
Really?
Seriously?
Your "explanation" sounds more like an excuse. And there's no such thing as a good excuse.
I'm going to refrain from verbalizing any more, but I'm sitting at my computer with a stony glare, one eyebrow raised critically, and a thousand sardonic words and phrases at the ready on my tongue.

....that was kind of rude. *sigh*
*shrugs* Ah well, I s'pose me interrupting this is also rude. A shame.

Yeah, it was rude of me. I posted while angry (don't do that, it's a bad idea, I shouldn't have, and I really should have known better). It was followed by a wave of guilt, and a subsequent wave of frustration. It may or may not have been rude of you to point that out, but nowhere near as bad as I was, and you did in fact point out the factual truth.

*shrug* I s'pose. And yes, I do know from experience that posting while upset/mad/not thinking clearly is terrible. -Not- a good idea [*has had bad experiences in the past*] So I can completely relate. ^^ That's all.

I've decided to take your comments with a grain of salt, considering your gallery. We've got very different tastes, and I don't respect people who have nothing but negative comments to say on an original, abstract piece.
Troll.

My understanding has always been that abstract refers to things outside or other than the concrete world. It's a bunch of DANGLING GEARS! Are they there as found objects? Because as is, they are definitely identifiable things- there are chains, gears, a length of braided trim, jump rings, and a pocket watch here. Are they abstract in the sense that they weren't arranged in the shape of something? In what way are these things abstract, pray tell? (Note- this isn't sarcasm, I genuinely do want a better explanation.)
You unknowingly stumbled straight into the unhappy world of my pet peeves. That's why I was (and am) using this tone. Slapping blatantly nonfunctional gears on something is like the proverbial set of nails on a chalkboard. I apologize for my previous comment. It was rude and you had absolutely no way of knowing how much that bothers me; it was unreasonable of me to have that expectation, and inappropriate of me to have replied while in that mental state.
But apparently your memory is incredibly selective. Or are you fishing for a compliment? I really did like the choker. Honestly, I did. I liked everything BUT the gears that were attached in a seeming afterthought. Here's something constructive: if you had attached gears to/along the band of the choker, or hanging from the swags of chain, it would have been more thoroughly aesthetically incorporated.
Now the really big question: are you going to treat me like a human being and give me a reasonable answer to any of my prior questions, or have you already decided that my petty outburst has rendered me beneath your concern?

So, you're going to pick apart my imagination? That's your prerogative. But you can't sit there and tell me my creativity is wrong.
I'm not going to judge you for having an opinion. I'm not that kind of person. I'm not really sure why this is such a big deal for you. A four paragraph explanation of yourself? A little overkill, my friend. It's not like I made this choker just to piss you off, and I asked you to comment.
Anyway, thanks. Let's leave it there, yeah?

Then could you stop blowing me off and explain your usage of "abstract", if nothing else?

Eisoptrophobic In reply to lintila [2010-10-28 18:16:06 +0000 UTC]
Abstract, like it's well known definition, is abstract itself. To me, anyway.
To me, abstract is anything that is out of the norm of 'perfection', or the programmed response to beauty.

Ms-internet-stalker In reply to Eisoptrophobic [2009-12-13 19:02:21 +0000 UTC]
Very. And probably a bit more practical, too. Upon thinking, it'd be odd to have a clock on a choker, since you'd never be able to get at it to check the time. Works out for the best.

I really like this.
