Description This is the first time I've sketched out equines,  these are mule and pony characters.  - needless to say it's rough. I also do not have any experience in making backgrounds. I would be ETERNALLY grateful if someone could do redlines for this, especially with more finer details.  I'm struggling to think these are just too simplistic which is driving me crazy. Much thanks to anyone who wants to take on this task!

Wow, I'm so embarrassed to be replying a thousand years later. But I truly appreciate the redlines and your feedback! They were really helpful, and now that I see the anatomical corrections, I might end up redoing it altogether. I love how you stayed true to the style I was going for, all while making it more interesting and accurate. Thank you so much again, and I apologize for the late response!

I appreciate the response no matter the time! You're welcome!

I try to stay true to the style presented because I don't think it is as helpful when the style is changed. I don't expect people to follow my drawing conventions so I try not to force them on! Plus style is a mix of opinion and truth, so long as the base is solid and intentional (that's the trick with characiture!) you can do whatever you want with the dressings and have it be OK.

I could maybe do a redline! I am not really a better artist but I could help maybe. What are you looking for mostly? Anatomy tips or style tips?

Well hey, the different outlooks the better! Honestly, I'd be interested in seeing both! I much prefer seeing another artist's view rather than my own style in a slightly different way. So by all means, have a go at it! I'm definitely interested in what you come up with! Thanks so much!

(tell me if that link doesn't work)

I pretty much just did my own style over it. There were like, one or two anatomy things I tried to help with but it looks good as it is!

You had a lot of really POINTY points on some of your lines on the horsies, and I would try to avoid those. Horses are organic and need smooth, organic lines.

I'm not sure what breed the horse on the right is? But head shape depends a LOT on the breed. The way you drew her makes her look like an Arabian, because of the deep dish on her nose line. So if that's what you wanted, you did a good job. But if she was a Quarter horse or a Draft, for example, this head shape would not be appropriate. If the breed doesn't matter, then what you did is fine as well.

If you want a cartoony look, your eyes are fine. I try to aim for something in the middle, personally. So making them rounder helps. I also added tear ducts, since horses have those too. Eyelashes are optional, except for in realism. I made lines above the eye as well: one represents the eyelid, while the higher one is the general shape of the horses head near it's eye.

I think that's pretty much it. I also just added some extra lines I normally add, to show you what I do, but you don't have to worry about that of course.
I hope this was helpful!

Hey there,

I apologize for the late reply! I just viewed it and I am extremely pleased with what your lines! For the angularity, I kind of purposely did that. I wanted to try and shoot for a semi-realistic style, somewhere in-between stylized and realism. Definitely tried to give the lines a bit of personality, ya know?

The breed of horse on the right is still up for debate, but it is in-between an Arabian and/or a Palomino pony. I'd like the mule to be roughly the same size as her, maybe even a tad bigger. But I want her to be a little smaller than the average horse. (I'm not a horse expert, haha.)

Thank you for helping me out with such information and the redlines! It's been a big help, and I will adjust such accordingly!

oh don't worry, I am a professional late-replier

ah yes, semi-realism
I also do semi-realism, but everyone's degree of cartoon.vs.realism is a little different
so that's fine, if that's what you were aiming for
lines can have personality without points or with them
I believe the biggest thing is having lines that represent the shape you want while also being creative with it

Well that all makes sense then.
And well, mules can come from pretty much any horse mixture, so he can be as big as you want.
They even have draft mules, which are really interesting.

Yeah, I'm really glad that helped!
