The black shapes in this deviation were extracted from a random pattern created with cell function:www.deviantart.com/ekeladolf/aβ¦
I used embossing and posterization filters for the extraction. The color scheme was inspired by one of Tounushi's early and discarded reconstruction desgins of SS Peadot:

The colours look great on this one, as stated before maybe less black would be better, could you make the black more transparent?.

Looks interesting, but I think the black is overdone.

I agree. I think cell function might be indeed useful for creating shapes suited for dotty patterns, but the outcome might still require some manual re-adjustments.
By the way, I got the description wrong: I didn't emboss the cellfunction before posterizing it.
