once you get this detailed with a modelled head, there's sort of a problem. it no longer looks stylized, like a sculpture for instance, because it's so detailed. however, it doesn't quite look real, either. yeah, i know, it's not supposed to look real, it's supposed to look like a scary metal head. but dwelling in this grey area between realism and stylization is sort of distracting, especially when it the centerpiece of the wall.

To me it looks like the head has a glass layer or plastic..something of that nature covering it's real skin or surface which looks more like gold.

Yes, a very impressive piece and as Realitysquared a lot of touch up effort in retouching the figure. When I viewed the thumbnail, my first look at the face reminded me heavily of the actor who plays in the Mummy (that guy can give a real creepy look with just one cocked eyebrow)
The only thing I can offer aside from praise on a job extremely well done, is maybe include an image of a newly forming galaxy in the background (this way it matches the description more).
BTW, the red nebula clouds are wonderful. They add an interesting dichotomy; red hinting at hell and the figure of light being God and Heaven.

Hmmm,
Quite good in my opinion.
Knowing how Bryce treats mirrored surfaces I can appreciate the effort that went into retouching the figure.
Some suggestions I have would be-
Perhaps 'soften' the transition from the brightest areas to the darker ones. Specifically, the forehead's transition on the right side is a little angular and should be smoothed out just a bit.
I have found that the shadow-side ear of just about any Bryce rendered poser model tends to be overly bright, you may want to actually layer a little black over it to tone down the brightness, or perhaps erase the ear entirely.
I really like the background- it perfectly offsets the image and it's hauntingly familiar for some reason...
